AM: Hey hey! What have you been up to recently? 

Hi, thank you very much for the invitation!
I am currently following a course on Permaculture. I am reading quite a few books about it while searching for a house in the countryside with a nice land where I could settle.
I wish to dedicate my time entirely to permaculture and art projects.

AM: The mix is really wicked, with unfolding  field recordings and experimental ambient bits throughout. Where and how did you record the mix? Any theme behind it too? 

I am glad you enjoyed it. I simply made the music selection on my computer, in Popi's company, our rabbit who was having a nap.
Behind the music selections, I tend to seek for introspection. I  aim at pushing the listeners towards unknown areas, sometimes filled with serenity, sometimes very extreme and anxious.
I like to mix music genres, from concrete music to noise music,  introducing a bit of club tracks while keeping an experimental spirit to the whole mix.
I avoid producing linear club mixes.
I enjoy polyrythms, breaks in rythms, silence and parasite sounds.
For sure, these are not made for being listened to at an after-work with colleagues but more at home, sitting on a comfortable chair, with your eyes closed.

AM: We absolutely love your latest release on tape, ‘Transmutation’. Can you tell us about the inspiration for the album, and the set up you use?

Once again, thank you!
Regarding the inspiration for the album, it's a bit like the music selections. I take inspiration from spiritism, occult rites, religion, voodoo, legends, mythology as well as from the oceanic realm.
The unknown and what lies beyond this life are the main sources of inspiration.
To create this album, I worked from field audio recordings, with my modular system and an electric guitar.

AM: Whats next for you?

A new release on my label KUMP is coming early June. A first album from Mert Seger which is a new project.

I am also working on new projects with our collective Meth.O.tapes. We have several sound installation projects, and A/V lives going on.

Finally, a new album with Warzou is on the way as part of our project Warzabart.

My great friend and sparring partner, Everett, filled in for me this month while I was away on a meditation retreat. As well as being an unsung pillar of the community in Manchester, behind the scenes at The White Hotel, Peste, and Annex, he's one of my undisputed favourite DJs and biggest inspirations. His selections are sprawling and limitless, but laser-focused in sensibility, and often brain-ticklingly weird. I'm a huge fan of b2b DJing, it's the cornerstone of Half Edge events and a form that never fails to present me with new lessons and challenges, but after years and countless times playing together there's nobody I've clicked with as seamlessly as Toby. There's no tip-toeing around each other, no anxiety about how to meet in the middle, no need for compromise - just pure synchronicity and understanding. Something that spills out, over and beyond the sum of parts. Three decks playing, four hands on the mixer at any given time. Such a treat having him take the reins on this one - it's a stunning mix: emotive, esoteric, and effortlessly poised between anxiety and ecstasy.

starting the year with a mix from bologna’s carolina martines. been fortunate enough to see all kinds of scenes in mickey zoggs, but few moments musically resonate like carolina’s roll through set after the normcore party back in july. it still pops into my head every now and then. full room transfixion.

We are back with a late happy new year to everyone, greeting the new cycle with another sonic journey; Basel based artist Mirrorange is collecting and researching ambient music in many different forms since years, but just recently started to share this desire and explorations with a broader public. As a producer he is heavily influenced by ambient textures, implementing them into various other genres in which he projects the information sucked up in daily life. 
In this episode the music becomes a vessel for overlapping fieldrecordings, audio-snippets from movies and distorted soundscapes. A journey set to drift into unclear waters as it questions humanity’s role in the development of the machine, opposing cyborg reflections about their ancestors with the sheer ambivalence and vastness of human emotion; a swirl of joy and woe depicting the human complexity, accelerated by the possibilities of their technological creations.
