“Having originated Goa trance, Charanjit Singh and Bollywood disco, India has a rich history with electronic music. Over the last few decades, the subcontinent has witnessed the rise of various genres, from bass music to techno to extreme metal, with a puzzling lacuna: the nihilistic grind and aggressively pulsating funk of industrial music and electronic body music.

A remnant from a conversation with Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb underlines this mix: "You can't love techno without loving disco." This sentiment shapes the essence of my selection as a non-DJ. Despite the admittedly volatile mix, my intention is to pay homage to the more recent realms of heavier techno, industrial, EBM, and 80s synthpop, interspersed with darker shades of disco.”

The Kurkkio Festival is a yearly gathering way up north in Swedish Lappland. Arranged in true DIY spirit with stages in a barn and an old storage building used for drying birch. Back before acid house changed the world, Jaye was already ploughing a unique path playing weird and wonky musics of all flavours at squat parties and industrial based do’s, she flung herself whole heartedly and without concern for her safety into the oncoming tsunami of what we would end up tagging as house, techno or the multitude of varying descriptive titles it has been given and has stayed true to ‘our thing’ ever since.
