ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਪੰਚਪਦੇ ॥
Gauree, Kabeer Jee, Panch-Padhay:

ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਛੋਡਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭਇਓ ਮੀਨਾ ॥
 ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੱਛ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਤਿਵੇਂ)
I am like a fish out of water,

ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਹਉ ਤਪ ਕਾ ਹੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
(ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਭੀ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ (ਤਾਹੀਏਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮਗਹਰ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ) ।੧।
because in my previous life, I did not practice penance and intense meditation. ||1||

ਅਬ ਕਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਕਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਮੋਰੀ ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ! ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ, ਮੇਰਾ ਕੀਹ ਹਾਲ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ? 
Now tell me, Lord, what will my condition be?

ਤਜੀ ਲੇ ਬਨਾਰਸ ਮਤਿ ਭਈ ਥੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
 ਮੈਂ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਛੱਡ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ (ਕੀ ਇਹ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮੇਰੀ ਮੱਤ ਮਾਰੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ? ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I left Benares - I had little common sense. ||1||Pause||

ਸਗਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਵ ਪੁਰੀ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
(ਹੇ ਰਾਮ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ—) ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ 
I wasted my whole life in the city of Shiva;

ਮਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਮਗਹਰਿ ਉਠਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੨॥
ਹੁਣ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਮਿਲਣੀ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਮਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ (ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮਗਹਰ ਤੁਰ ਆਇਆ ਹੈਂ ।੨।
at the time of my death, I moved to Magahar. ||2||

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਰਸ ਤਪੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਾਸੀ ॥
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਲੋਕ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ—) ਤੂੰ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਕਈ ਸਾਲ ਤਪ ਕੀਤਾ (ਪਰ ਉਸ ਤਪ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ?)
For many years, I practiced penance and intense meditation at Kaashi;

ਮਰਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਮਗਹਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਸੀ ॥੩॥
ਜਦੋਂ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਮਗਹਰ ਆ ਵੱਸਿਓਂ ।੩।
now that my time to die has come, I have come to dwell at Magahar! ||3||

ਕਾਸੀ ਮਗਹਰ ਸਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
(ਹੇ ਰਾਮ! ਲੋਕ ਬੋਲੀ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ—) ਤੂੰ ਕਾਂਸ਼ੀ ਤੇ ਮਗਹਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸਮਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ,
Kaashi and Magahar - I consider them the same.

ਓਛੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੈਸੇ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
ਇਸ ਹੋਛੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ (ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘੇਂਗਾ? ।੪।
With inadequate devotion, how can anyone swim across? ||4||

ਕਹੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਜ ਸਿਵ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
(ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ!) ਆਖ—ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗਣੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਪਛਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰੇਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਮੁਕਤੀਦਾਤਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗਣੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਖੋਹਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ);
Says Kabeer, the Guru and Ganaysha and Shiva all know

ਮੁਆ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਰਮਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮੈ ॥੫॥੧੫॥
ਪਰ ਕਬੀਰ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਹੀ ਮਿਟਾ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ (ਕਬੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਹ ਗਤੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ) ।੫।੧੫।
that Kabeer died chanting the Lord's Name. ||5||15||
