Vikken revisite « Der Voghormia », chant liturgique arménien qui l’accompagne depuis son enfance. L’artiste invoque ses ancêtres dans cet hommage très personnel, où la mélancolie des voix laisse place à de longs silences et des sons d’influence industrielle.
Artiste transdisciplinaire de la scène électro, Vikken crée en 2019 son premier projet solo sous son nom.
De ses expériences en tant que producteur et DJ, Vikken garde la ligne électronique, la recherche de textures et de rythmes downtempo qui incitent au lâcher-prise.
La forme finale n'arrivera que quelques mois plus tard lorsque qu’il y ajoute sa voix, comme une évidence - créative, politique, cathartique - sur des titres jusqu’alors instrumentaux.

Hi everyone. Today I'm glad to present you the second track from the 'Live Material Series'. This track is very special to me, as the original version of Wildfire Part 2 is for some reason my favourite part of the Wildfire album. I guess it's because it's one of the very few tracks I ever made without overthinking anything. It was like each step of the creation process was telling me what to do next, and the only thing I had to do was to let myself be guided. I guess some of you can relate very well to this :)

This 'Melancholic Acid' mix is relatively close to the original mix. As its name suggest, the most significant difference is the addition of an acid synth layer. What I wanted was to reinvent the track and adapt it to my acid techno liveset, but without losing neither its melancholic vibe nor its simplicity.

[ LIVE MATERIAL SERIES N°7 ]

Hi everyone. Today I'm glad to present you the seventh of the 'Live Material Series'. Wildfire Part 7 (Malström Madness Mix) is one of the tracks from this entire series that I removed from my liveset the most recently. Which means that I played it A LOT.

My idea when creating this was to make a sped-up, frenetic version of the original track. So I started by switching the tempo from 131... to 157 BPM. It was like this drastic change was giving to the main melody a completely new meaning. I then created the acid parts, which appeared very naturally, thanks to this fast tempo I guess.

The final touch was to add a very peculiar sound: the complex synthesizer sound that opens the original version of Wildfire Part 7. This sound comes from Malström, an incredibly powerful virtual granular synthesizer made by Reason Studios two decades ago and that I'm still using extensively these days. Actually I didn't replicate the original sound I created for the Wildfire album, but I created a new sound with the same spirit. More importantly, I managed things in a way I could modulate a lot of parameters of this new sound live. Which both means that it was a very fun part to play, and that it has never sounded the same way twice. In this recorded version for example, it sounds like R2-D2 insulting C-3PO for being too shy. But it could have sounded completely different. That's because of this unpredictable sound that I named this version 'Malström Madness Mix'.

Last but not least, the final melody one can hear in this live version was an attempt to make reference to one of my favourite musical acts ever. Will you be able to recognize who I'm talking about?

Mechanism is a Rotterdam based organisation focussing on presenting and releasing adventurous techno driven music. The platform explores the boundaries between forefront audio visual explorations and experimental clubculture. The aim of Mechanism is to push the limits of the sonic pallet and to contribute to the intersection of dance floor rituals and abstract sensory experiences. Besides organizing experimental club nights, the organisation runs the Mechanism record label which releases vanguard electronic music emerging from human machine interactions.

The first release of the label is by Rotor Militia.

Rotor Militia is a electronic music project duo from Rotterdam. Their music is a combination of techno driven digital dance floor beats and hypnotic abstract layers of ritualistic and synthetic sounds.
