Between takes whilst recording the EP Desert Songs, the two songwriters Dawn Landes and Piers Faccini found inspiration for the songs they were writing together by walking in the stark and beautiful mountain scenery around Piers’s studio in the Cevennes region of the south of France. Chatting as they walked, they swopped tales of desert mystics and seekers that would inspire them to write the songs for their collaborative EP. Dawn and Piers wove the arrangements together using the rich collection of instruments in Piers’s studio, a Malian Kora, a 1930’s National resonator guitar, West African percussion and an Indian dulcimer and tampura.

The sophomore solo album from Pomplamoose­ partner Nataly Dawn was released October29th, 2016. As the duo’s frontwoman, Dawn is best known for the covers and originals Pomplamoose released as “Video Songs” via YouTube, achieving over 450,000 subscribers and 115 million views on the site. Known for their DIY approach, Pomplamoose performs, records, films and edits all of their music and videos from their home­ studio in Northern California. After a successful Kickstarter campaign (raising over six figures), Dawn recorded her debut solo album How I Knew Her at Prairie Sun Recording Studios in Sonoma. For Haze, Dawn decided to return to her home­ studio roots, handling the bulk of the instrumentation and production herself.

Dawn’s songwriting has been compared to Elliott Smith, Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney and Carole King, while her production influences range from Vampire Weekend to Radiohead. Mixed by Beau Sorrenson (Death Cab for Cutie, Bob Mould, Superchunk) at Tiny Telephone Recording Studios in San Francisco, Haze contrasts bare bone guitar­ vocal tracks with epic synth ballads, always featuring strong melodies and unflinchingly gritty lyrics.
