The second hour of the show will host an exclusive mix from one of Disco's finest, Javi Frias.

DJ and producer from Madrid with a long way collecting and playing soul, funk, disco, boogie & house all over his country and Europe, with releases on Street Edits, Hotbox Boogie, Midnight Riot, Giant Cuts, About Disco, Editorial or Spa In Disco.

Heavily influenced by soulful music from mid nineties, since then he has the opportunity of spread the message of black dance music, being resident DJ of legendary clubs like Marula Café, Tempo Club, Café Berlin or El Junco in Madrid or Afrodisia and Boogaclub in Granada, and djing at big festivals like Baltic Soul Weekender (Germany), Contre-Temps Festival (France), Heineken Jazzaldia (Spain), Cultura Inquieta (Spain) or Imagina Funk (Spain). He also usually travels with his records to play in cities like Barcelona, Paris, Hamburg, Leipzig, Strasbourg, Basel, Antwerp or Stuttgart.

His DJ sets are always elegant, addictive and eclectic, full of energy and mostly on vinyl, covering the broad spectrum of the black underground dance music: soul, funk, jazz, rare grooves, disco, boogie, soulful house...

As a producer he's working on his own disco edits, done in an 'old school' way, respecting the artist's original sound, but adding some re-touches to make them more enjoyable on the dance floor. We are absolutely thrilled to announce our next guest, the man that needs no introduction, SADAR BAHAR.

Sadar Bahar jokingly describes his vinyl-buying habit as a "30-year disease, a sickness." Driven by an "unquenchable desire to create one of the best collections ever," he filled his home with records, and once his home was full, he began storing them in his mother's basement. Speaking to Rush Hour last year, Bahar admitted to owning as many as nine copies of a single record. His collection includes plenty of exceedingly rare wax—he once told CDR of a ten-year quest to find a copy of Open Soul by Tomorrow's People. There's also no shortage of other DJs playing music they first heard in a Sadar Bahar set. Theo Parrish, who describes Bahar's DJing as "sick, sick, sick," freely admits to "biting" his selections, while Dego simply calls his sets "ridiculous."

Bahar's schooling, like many Chicago DJs of his generation, came from watching Ron Hardy in action at the Music Box. "Every time you went to see Ron Hardy, you'd come away with knowledge and having had a good time," he said to CDR. Years later, he noticed that standards had slipped: many of the city's DJs were shopping at the same record stores and playing the same music. This spurred him to go the opposite route, digging harder and deeper than his contemporaries. It's an approach that has come to define him, and it feeds into Soul In The Hole, the party he runs with Lee Collins. The music played at those vinyl-only parties is a joyous blend of disco, soul and gospel. In 2012, the UK label BBE issued a Soul In The Hole compilation, a killer selection that brought Collins and Bahar's sound to the world.

We are beyond thrilled to announce our next guest, a man who need no introduction, Victor Rosado!!!! 

Victor embodies the sound of the seminal New York Dance Mecca, The Loft.

Victor Rosado has received international acclaim for his DJ prowess, cutting edge remixing and cultivated editing skills. Since surfacing on the New York City scene during the late 1970’s, he has continued to play an integral role in the development of Dance music.

Victor spun electrifying soulful dance sets not only at The Loft & Paradise Garage but also New York City’s most celebrated nightclubs, including the notorious Discothèque, Studio 54, The Ritz, Tunnel, The Copacabana and The Palladium.

Victor was a DJ for the longest ever NYC licensed non-cabaret non-commercial “rent” parties (Love Saves The Day) at home of David Mancuso, renowned DJ who is also recognized as the originator of the DJ record pool party system. At The Loft, Victor honed his craft on the Klipschorn speaker system.

In the summer of 1987, he started sharing Saturday nights with Larry Levan at the legendary Paradise Garage & also played at the 48 Hour non-stop historic closing party of the Garage. Victor polished his unique style parallel to that of his luminary professor Larry Levan.

After the Garage closed, the dynamic duo of Levan and Rosado wreaked havoc on various dance floors, including Zanzibar, The Choice, Wild Pitch, and House Nation.

￼Victor’s first trip to Japan in 1987 was coordinated by King Street Records & World Connection, spinning with Larry Levan, he has annually performed solo seasonal tours rocking the dance floors at noteworthy Japanese venues such as Club Air, Club Next, J/End Max and Club Gold.

In 1991, he was invited to bring his quintessential NYC DJ style to the grand opening of the feted Japanese Club Yellow, the largest and longest running (16 years) dance venue that closed its doors in 2008.

One of his most memorable engagements was on September 21, 1991, for the grand opening of The Ministry of Sound (MOS), London’s premier nightclub, inspired by the Paradise Garage.
Larry and Victor quickly began spinning at various United Kingdom underground hot spots including Queer Nation, Turnmills, and Club Moist. Victor returned to the MOS for various engagements, including the highly publicized gig with Grammy award winners dance music production team C + C Music Factory.

Victor has gained domestic recognition as one of the world’s finest radio DJs, with his incredible club classic dance parties during his Saturday night special guest appearances broadcasting for Mixmaster DJ Tony Humphries on WKTU FM 103.5, one of New York City’s hottest radio stations.

This multi-talented individual is accredited with mixing and remixing numerous memorable dance tracks for the independent label Downtown 161, one of NYC’s original dance music indie labels (USA), and the Japanese Urban label BlackTown Records, which released Moulton/Rosado Classic remixes, CDS Vol. 1&2in 2008.
Victor achieved accolades for the 2 pack NY Classics compilation released on the internet dance music label Halfmoon Records, (USA), released in conjunction with his powerhouse production pal, Tom Moulton. The independent record label Vinylmania, released Victor’s soulful remix of Man Friday’s “Love Honey, Love Heartache” (25th Anniversary Remix) limited 2 x 12 inch vinyl pack. The famed BASSMENT (JPN) also has had success with their release of Victor’s mixed CD “Our Time” Vol. 1.

Ghetto Disco Presents: Mark Grusane

After a small hiatus the Ghetto Disco show returns full force. We are beyond thrilled to introduce our next special guest, a lady who need no introduction, the one & only, Margie Joseph.

To say it is an absolute honour to have her on the show would be an understatement. Margie is a Ghetto Disco favourite and we simply cannot wait to share this show. 

Margie Joseph was born in Gautier, Mississippi, and sang in her church choir. In 1967, during her time attending Dillard University in New Orleans where she studied speech and drama, she recorded some demos at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studios. This led to her debut on the Okeh label, "Why Does a Man Have to Lie?".

In 1969, she signed with Volt Records, a subsidiary of Stax, and recorded the single "One More Chance" with producer Willie Tee. Her next single, "Your Sweet Lovin'", produced by Freddy Briggs, became her first hit, reaching # 46 on the Billboard R&B chart. Its follow-up, a version of The Supremes' "Stop! In the Name of Love" also became a minor hit on the pop chart (# 96 pop, # 38 R&B). An eight-minute version of the track, arranged by Dale Warren, preceded by an Isaac Hayes-inspired rap entitled "Woman Talk," was featured on her 1971 album, Margie Joseph Makes a New Impression and received a lot of radio air play. Her second album, Phase II, in 1972, also featured a Supremes' cover, "My World Is Empty Without You," but failed to achieve the same success.

She then signed to the Atlantic label and worked on three albums with producer Arif Mardin. Her vocals on her cover of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" garnered comparisons between her and Aretha Franklin. A string of R&B hits followed, with her version of Paul McCartney's "My Love" becoming her most successful record, reaching # 69 on the Hot 100 and # 10 on the R&B chart in 1974, though Cashbox magazine placed the song at #4 R&B. The next album Margie in 1975 is sometimes regarded as her creative peak and contained the singles, "Words (Are Impossible)" and "Stay Still", both reaching the R&B chart. She then recorded a duet version of "What's Come Over Me" with the popular Philadelphia group, Blue Magic, giving her another hit (R&B # 11).

In 1976, she moved to Cotillion Records to make the album Hear the Words, Feel the Feeling, produced by Lamont Dozier, the title track reaching # 18 on the R&B chart. Returning to Atlantic, she recorded the album Feeling My Way in 1978 with producer Johnny Bristol, but without great commercial success and she was released from her contract. After recording an album with Dexter Wansel for the WMOT label, which went unreleased after the label closed down, she decided to turn to a teaching career. However, in 1982, she recorded the single "Knockout" for the small H.C.R.C. label and it became her last big hit, reaching # 12 on the R&B chart. She re-signed to Cotillion and recorded the 1984 album Ready for the Night with producer Narada Michael Walden, but was then dropped by the label.

In 1993, hip-hop female trio Salt-N-Pepa used Margie's 1970s single "Your Sweet Lovin'" for their hit single "None of Your Business".

She returned to work in human services, while also recording a gospel album, Latter Rain, released in 2006.

Many of her earlier recordings have been reissued on CD. There is also a CD which features Margie, Blue Magic and Major Harris, recorded live at the Latin Casino in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, released in 2006 on the Collectables label.
