Selador Sessions 128 | Anthony Pappa

In November 2020, I was asked to warm up for Anthony Pappa at Brown Alley's rooftop for the Warehouse 3000 Rooftop Summer Series. I decided to keep it chilled and smooth and I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people grooving and cheering so hard to such downtempo vibes. It was a great atmosphere!

So 1st mix of the year huh? I’ve gotta admit that I haven’t really bean ‘feeling it’ lately and honestly didn’t think I would get anything out at all this month but here we are…

This mix was made last night on the fly with tracks I just felt went together organically so it’s full of pretty HUGE older tracks meshed in with some new ones.. No promos or anything fancy like that…. 

It’s rather ‘raw’ and only a mini-mix of 40mins or so but I’ve kept myself super busy looping the whole way through etc...

Anyways, take a listen if you feel that way incline.. ❤️🎶❤️

So I [FINALLY] got a new mix out for my RHYTHM OF DREAMS series this month. To be completely transparent; I’ve really been struggling with ‘music anxiety’ this year… if that’s even a thing? 

This mix is quite left field for me I guess. It’s still all 3/4 breaksy stuff but played at 131 bpms so its 100% a different pace to my usual sets of late. I feel like it's a mini love story of my love/hate relationship with music right now and how it can both enamour and crush me all at once..

I am CLEARLY in some kind of limbo land at the moment...  I don’t know what I want to play anymore but this is where I am today so I hope you enjoy it…

My first time at LIB and what a fun experience It was! A special mention to the Favela bar crew for having me play. I enjoyed every moment and will definitely be back again next year! This was a 2pm - 330pm set. I didn't know what to expect so I said i'd just vibe it out... Turned out to be a really fun few hours! :)

Being asked to provide an online three and a half hour mix of music is an amazing opportunity to really tell a story, to go places you perhaps don’t often get to go as a DJ and explore a merging of genres that you perhaps seldom get to do (especially not in a club environment). As we all know, 2020 has been a psychologically challenging year and I have not been immune. When I started to conceptualise this mix, my mind was quite far removed from any visions of a smoke-filled venue or sun-drenched festival and was, perhaps more particularly, in a reasonably difficult headspace. The music I was drawn to, that I felt reflected where I was at is included in this mix. This is not a 'traditional style' of DJ mix and it’s most certainly more of a ’slow-burn’ style as some would say, sometimes taking its time to absorb the scenery and taking a few detours along the way. I do hope people listen to this with a patient, open mind and can connect to the aural stories that are told here- the sadness, uncertainty, hope, contemplation and ultimately, the human connection and joy. In parts, I’ve attempted to juxtapose different layers, join some interesting dots and create something beautiful for everyone.
Thank you so much to the Flow folks for asking me to contribute to this excellent series and I hope we can all reflect on 2020, take the gratitude and whatever else we have individually learnt from these circumstances and be the best we can be in 2021. x

With over two decades of experience behind her BEAN has had the pleasure of playing at some of Melbourne & Ibiza’s most iconic nightclubs and festivals and has supported a plethora of international DJ greats such as D-NOX, Infected Mushroom, Tiefschwarz and Peace Division to name a few.

Along with hosting her own show ‘RHYTHM OF DREAMS’ on SaturoSounds Bean also runs GLOBAL DANCE MUSIC COLLECTIVE where she is lucky enough to interview some of the worlds best DJs and producers.

Her sound is heavily influenced by Progressive house legends Sasha and Digweed as well as both Dave Seaman & Nick Warren and just like her mentors she revels in taking her punters on a journey.
