When I heard Passenger’s ‘Let Her Go’ for the first time, I immediately felt the raw emotion of the song, and knew it would be an amazing piece to sample for a hip-hop record.  A couple days later, I went to Jon Glass’ studio hoping to convince him of this.  When I got there, I told him that I had a song I wanted to sample and asked him if he’d ever heard of Passenger.  He replied: “That’s funny, because like 15 minutes ago I heard a song on the radio and wanted to sample it. I Shazam’ed it, and Passenger was the artist”.  I asked the name of the song, and (of course) he said: “Let Her Go”.  
Needless to say, we went on to sample it, made an incredible beat out of it, and over the next two days I wrote ‘The Light’. 
It’s said about women that you can’t live with them- and you can’t live without them. This song is dedicated to anyone who has ever experienced the regret & remorse of walking away from a woman you once loved, only to later realize the true gravity of that decision.
