Music is one of the best ways of showing who we really are. In fact, music may also be able to communicate an individual’s past. The DJ name Nateka is the result of joining the words “Náa” (Meaning “I am” in Zapotec, an indigenous Mesoamerican language from Southern Mexico) and “Teca” (the Spanish common name of Tectona grandis, a large tree species considered the ‘mother of all woods’ due to its elegance and durability). In this sense, Nateka’s style of music seeks to express diverse life experiences in Javier’s life.
