This is a song we wrote after listening to too much Vandals.  We were 15 and brand new to writing songs.  You have to take keys from somewhere I guess.  Obviously, I rewrote the lyrics.  Wanted to emphasize embracing the struggles we go through in life instead of running from them.

While this isn't one of my old acoustic songs turned symphony rock/metal, I wrote this while recording those to see if I could string parts without using my old vocal melodies as the basic template to follow.

I Am

Reloading this track because the other apparently had a glitch in it.  Tried something a little more southern rock and metal.  My buddy Tom did first run of vocals, but as I kept moving around, he never really got to finish it, so I finished it while keeping his chorus.

The Road I've Traveled

Another old song that I took the original vocals and turned into string parts.  I like the direction the vocals took, really just kind of on their own.  Normally, I try to map out what screams or notes I'm going to hit and keep myself very controlled.  For this song though, I decided to try something different.  I let go of control and I got myself really worked up.  Then, I hit record and just let it all out.  

My throat doesn't normally get raw while screaming, but that's the difference between controlled screaming and giving voice to that agony inside us I guess.  I was crying during parts of this, which made recording difficult trying to see the screen, but I think the emotions come out through it and made it more intense than it might have been otherwise.  

So I may stick with that 'sound' or 'tone' for the remainder of the songs I do in this genre.  I'm going to take another look at Yesterday and see if I can tweak it to fit more with this song.  It may not be possible since one is optimistic and the other is forlorn.  We'll see I guess.

Acoustic song written with my buddy Nate while I was stationed at Whiteman.  Took the old vocal parts and converted them to string pieces and rewrote the lyrics and vocal harmonies.  Tried something different.

This is one of a few songs my buddy Larry sent me.  He's on drums... might be guitar and bass too, I'm not sure if it's him or one of his friends.  Threw some vocals on.  I think it turned out ok.
