Amidst The Doubts (From the Original Novel Soundtrack)

Something different for me. After being in Vancouver on a rainy evening a few weeks ago, I was inspired to create this story:

Walking east on Robson toward Stanley Park
The sidewalk's all a shimmer in the dark
As wipers clear the view for the cars

Turn right on Bute down to the harbor
Where the low hung greys cloud out the North Shore
And seaplanes cut the calm of the night

High rises climb out of sight
Lost in the mists of the night
As I stand and wipe the moisture from my eyes

They run down the stairs from Canada Place
Arm in arm - in their embrace 
The dark and the damp are their “go to” space

I watch their happy amble along the seawall water walk
Probably heading home from a night on the town
While I blow to clear the tip of my nose

And behind me the sirens roar
The city’s nighttime call
To tell the world about someone’s else’s fall

And I'm walking in Vancouver rain, walking on my own again
only days since you've been gone but the nights they feel so long
So I'll walk on in Vancouver rain

If this gentle fall would help my pain be gone
That’s a metaphor I think I could own
Perhaps then brighter days might just come my way 
A hope that could help me carry on

Catch a ferry from Granville to Hornby Street
Walk the seawall path through dark filtered greys
with seabird’s calls to brighten up my way

And the shipboard lights out in the Inlet
Drift in the haze beyond English Bay.
But here on land life goes on the same

And the big men they just laugh 
each time I shuffle past
on my way up Denman to what used to be my life. 

I’ll wander up the hill by a damp street fast and full
Into the city that takes life in its stride
Rain keeps coming down so I’ll walk my way back home 
Still wishing you were here by my side

And I’m walking in Vancouver rain, out here all alone again
It's only days since you've been gone but the nights just feel so long
