Vitas is a Latvian singer, who sings in Russian and Ukrainian. This song happens to be written in Russian, so I sang it that way (it’s easy for me to do because my native language is Czech and most slavic languages are somewhat similar, especially if you have a passion for learning languages, which I do).

This is a song I have always enjoyed and it brought me a lot of joy over the years, I hope my cover will do the same for you.

I obviously do not make any statement with this, the fact that it’s in Russian is just a part of the song for me, and it’s not the language’s fault how many of the people who speak it are unfortunately behaving or thinking. My country had a very negative experience with Russia in the past and regarding current situation, I want to say that I strongly condemn Russia for its absolutely unacceptable actions of mass murdering civilians and its terrorist behaviour in Ukraine.

I was considering changing the lyrics to Ukrainian and singing it that way, but the truth is I like the song the way it was written, so I hope everyone can understand that it’s just a language to me, I condemn the country that speaks it. And if that seems harsh - no. Russia’s actions are way more then harsh, so I think being a little bit ,,harsh” when we talk about them is a completely appropriate response.
