Samai Bayati

I discovered Middle Eastern percussion in 2006 and fell in love with classical Arabic Music, the Muwashahat, and Turkish Ottoman and Sufi Music.  My main instrument is the riqq.  I travelled to Syria, Turkey, France, the US and Canada to deepen my sense of rhythm and my perception of time and space in music.  I am mostly drawn to play long slow rhythm cycles used in the art of Muwashahat, ranging from 7/4, 10/4, 14/4, and even up to 32/4 beats cycles and more...  I am currently based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
