Henze Serenade: Tango

Nathaniel Mayne began playing the bass at the age of 11, and he immediately fell in love with the deep rich tone and untapped potential of the instrument. Ever since, Nathaniel has explored the orchestral and solo capabilities of the bass. He has performed an extensive range of orchestral repertoire from Mozart to Varèse and has collaborated with various composers including 2014 Pulitzer Prize winner John Luther Adams. Nathaniel has also performed with a variety of ensembles, including the La Jolla Symphony and the National Music Festival. In addition to performing orchestral music, he performs more contemporary works for the double bass written by composers such as Hans Werner Henze and Gavin Bryars, in addition to the standard bass repertoire. Nathaniel above all desires to present music which challenges the audience to look at the bass in a different light.
