Transportation is the time-traveling vehicle of Chandra Oppenheim, a 12-year-old fronting a hair-raising post-punk / mutant-disco outfit. The year was 1980, and the setting was Hell’s Kitchen, New York, at the anomalous intersection of art and music. As the daughter of eminent conceptual artist Dennis Oppenheim, Chandra showed considerable promise as a songwriter and performer from the age of 7. This inspired New York noisemakers The Model Citizens (later transforming into The Dance) to approach the young firestarter and become her backing band.

The original Transportation EP was released in 1980 by Go Go Records, the band’s own imprint, and has since become a long-lost cult classic. Cantor Records is proud to reissue the four-song EP with the addition of four unreleased songs by The Chandra Dimension (Chandra’s touring band comprised entirely of teenagers). Following a previous 2008 pressing, the perpetually out of print and highly sought after release is available on vinyl once again.

Nu Guinea - Ddoje Facce (STW Premiere)

Almost two years after the success of The Tony Allen Experiments and a few months after the release of the 7” single Amore, Nu Guinea return with a new LP published by their newborn label NG Records. Nuova Napoli is the result of an extensive musical research that became a historical investigation of the sound that shaped Napoli during the ‘70s and ‘80s, starting from the cross-pollination of genres (disco, jazz-funk, african rhythms) which forms Nu Guinea’s DNA.

*Lyrics of “Je Vulesse” are an extract of the poem “Je vulesse truvà pace” from the poet Eduardo De Filippo.

The Napoli formed, Berlin-based duo Nu Guinea creates sounds that are influenced from the idea of an exotic, far distanced place. By combining various music styles that are related to dancefloor music in its purest sense, they create a distinct sound, touching genre routes that go from obscure disco to world-ethno music.

Using muted piano, Chinese cymbal, and two variable-speed turntables playing a frequency record and a constant note record, this is believed to be one of the earliest electroacoustic works ever composed.
Under the rubric of "Cage.88@100," NEC's piano department chair Bruce Brubaker and project director Stephen Drury brought together piano students from the entire spectrum of NEC's teaching studios for a series of concerts top celebrate the Cage Centennial .

Max Graef and Julius Conrad are Ratgrave. 'Rock' is their second LP ~ ongoing transmissions of Electronic P-Fusion from Earth.

It follows a stellar debut on Funkineven's imprint Apron. The duo's sound pallette draws inspiration from 80's funk, soul, rock and electronic but through a contemporary lens from two versatile multi-instrumentalists. In their own words:

"Rock is the essence of energy and vibration we felt in different styles of music, almost like a parallel component connecting all things we like. In the process of recording the new album we kept coming back to this essence no matter what style the original idea was. There was the raw and brutal energy of Jazz-Rock, a lot of video game influences that somehow adhered this essence just as well as quieter Pop and Psychedelic passages that we recorded. Among other things we absorbed a lot of heavy music during the time of the recording like Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa or Jimi Hendrix and realized while writing our own music how much impact they had even on quieter songs. This is why "Rock“ felt like the perfect title although the music ranges from P-Funk and Spiritual Jazz to various styles of Pop and beyond.“
