Weclome back after a brief hiatus to the Nativecast Mix Series, Volume 23. We are glad to present friend and OG DJ from the city that birthed it all, Chicago, James Lauer. Drawing from early musical influences including Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, New Order, The Cure, Tears For Fears and of course the strange and beautiful music of Kraftwerk.

From his early record buying and house party DJing from before the turn of the current millennium, he has remained dedicated to the art of digging and finding his own flow on the decks refined over the course of hundreds of gigs in Chicago and around the midwest. opportunities to DJ in Detroit, Miami (WMC), San Francisco (Loveparade, Spundae) to International shows in Sydney/Melbourne, Tokyo, London, Mexico (Juarez, Chihuahua), Bulgaria, Serbia. He has also opened for major artists and key luminaries of the craft including Juan Atkins, Ritchie Hawtin, Chris Liebing, Satoshi Tomiie, John Digweed, James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), and more. 

Re-locating from downtown Chicago to Los Angeles in early 2013, James enjoys the chance to share his love for real house music, detroit inspired techno, electro, ambient, dub and other heady and proper dance music. His dedication to the rich musical roots of Chicago, Detroit, Berlin and beyond can be heard (and felt) in his dynamic vinyl on vinyl (plus digital) DJ sets as well as live performance.


His passion for the music is also extended through to his his ongoing studio efforts and DIY analog-style productions, remixes and collaborations. Enjoy this lavish 2 hour mix, diving into the heart of house and its progression along the years into dub, acid, techno, electro and more. Info: We started out as a small vinyl label and club night, and over the years we evolved into a global family of pioneers and enthusiasts in underground electronic music. Info: Take Your Time – EP is a five-track showcase of bass-heavy versatility from New
Zealand’s Unwell, blending UK bass, garage, 2-step, and jungle; it moves from
shimmering grooves to peak-time club pressure — built to work in any setting, from
the rave to the lounge.
Produced in Wellington, the EP opens with the title track Take Your Time, a
shimmering, swing-heavy garage cut, followed by two distinctive remixes: producers
Joku deliver a forward-moving flip, while Ukrainian artist Lostlojic adds a smoky,
atmospheric edge.
Disco Take switches gears with a playful jungle-meets-disco fusion, before Tamaki
Makaurau based AndWahn closes the EP with a driving club remix built for peak-time
energy.

Released on Washington’s Sound Transitions, Take Your Time – EP is a cross-
continental journey in groove; born in Wellington but shaped by influences and talents
