Up-and-coming indie-dance quartet Native People announce their debut EP ‘Tapes’, set for independent release on 25th May.
The band’s previous efforts have been widely praised, with their first single, ‘Calm Forever’ being highlighted as BBC Introducing’s ‘Record of the Week’ and Amazing Radio’s ‘Discovery of the Week’, while its follow up, ‘ONE’, received multiple plays on Tom Robinson's BBC 6Music radio show.

The coastal quartet, who hail from Kent, say: ‘the inspiration for Tapes EP started with us setting out to create our own vision of dance music and indie guitars, building on our earlier material by pushing the tempo and refining the production’.
The result is three seaside-influenced, sentimental takes on dreamscape indiedance, plus two remixes of the title cut, courtesy of Earmilk-approved The Citrus Clouds and electro-disco collective Lua Sonique. To record ‘Tapes’, the band teamed up with Mark Lord, who recorded their first singles, and whose previous remixing work has earned radio play from BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong. Lord’s strong background in dance music production, coupled with the band’s unanimous admiration of 80s synths and the early progenitors of power-pop, has resulted in a refreshingly upbeat EP that’s perfect for its early summer release.

Despite their youth, Reuben (21), Luke (20), Connor (18) and Hudd (18), masterfully craft songs well beyond their years, citing a wealth of influences and drawing impressive comparisons to acts such as Foals, Two Door Cinema Club and Friendly Fires. The band cite their own influences on this record as Theme Park, The 1975, and Bombay Bicycle Club, married with an effort to capture that much-loved 80s vintage sound. Already sporting a strong live following, which has seen them support acts such
as Mausi, Jaws, and Dave Rowntree of Blur on tour, Native People also played a sold-out show at KOKO for Club NME last September.

They return to the live fore to play an electric EP launch at Barfly this May, along with performing at Spindle Magazine’s stage at The Great Escape, kicking off a summer that’s bound to hold big things for these talented newcomers.

Native People release their unique cover of 'Ready For Your Love' as a free download.  'Ready For Your Love' is covered in Native People's trademark pop groove style, with expressive vocals amongst electronic structures centred around a kaleidoscope of beats.

The cover also demonstrates the band's ability to really refine their sound, at times being neither indie nor electronic but with nods to both. 'Ready For Your Love' shimmers with emotion with an ability to pivot between dreamy and delicate to a full on power pop explosion of cymbals and anthemic guitars.

Ludicrously young in age, Native People always manage to craft songs well beyond their years. Their style of music highlights a wealth of influences drawing impressive comparisons to acts such as Foals, Two Door Cinema Club and Friendly Fires.

Hotly tipped indie-electronic four piece Native People return in 2016 with their fresh new single and sound, 'Don’t Save Me’ released as part of Killing Moon’s January Compilation Album.

Youthful and full of ambition, Reuben (22), Luke (22), Connor (19) & Hudd (19) have combined classic 80s synths with fresh indie-electronic ties drawing influence from contemporaries like Shura, Friendly Fires and Two Door Cinema Club. Don’t Save Me is no exception, every inch the summer anthem with sharp guitars, warming synths and melodic vocals arriving in time to welcome lighter evenings and hotter days.

Support for the four piece has grown rapidly since the release of their debut single, Calm Forever which saw the lads secure titles such as Record of the Week (BBC Introducing Kent) and Discovery of the Week (Amazing Radio) plus feature on the likes of Clash, AMBY & Spindle.

The quartets vivacious live set saw the lads sell out Club NME at London’s prestigious, Koko and caught the attention of indie experts Propaganda. Eager to get their new show on the road, Native People will be heading back out in the van on a UK mini-tour in March 2016.

Kent quartet Native People show off their evolved sound in new single ‘Figure It Out’, set to drop on 28th October 2016.

Produced by Huw Stephens-approved collective The Citrus Clouds and Oz Craggs, the new track retains the band’s core essence whilst showcasing their versatility as they explore a new direction for their sound. The focus leans towards the marriage of 90s R&B, downtempo funk and sleek contemporary pop, reminiscent of Honne and Shura.

‘Figure It Out’ is a carefully crafted and well-timed release, as it perfectly reflects the change in tone and lifestyle between summer and autumn/winter. Gone are the days of full and aggressive drums, fleeting guitar arpeggios, driving discordant vocals, carefree living and summer romance. Instead we progress to the time of year characterised by long nights, melancholic and reflective lyrics and laid back beats. Singer Reuben Todd is the perfect narrator as his vocals are airy and sustained, perfectly complementing the sparse flanged guitar, ethereal pads and minimalistic, delicate percussion. All together they manage to sublimely convey the heartache and frustration but also the crucial desire to “figure it out”.   

2016 has been a big year for Native People, with their summer single ‘Call Me’ breaking into the top 10 on Spotify’s UK Viral Chart and being labeled “the sound of summer” by BBC Introducing’s very own Abbie McCarthey. In the past few months alone they have toured in Germany and Holland, played a plethora of festivals and headlined Club NME at the prestigious KOKO. This November the young band will embark on their first headline tour, stopping off at Bristol, Manchester, Brighton, Birmingham, Newcastle and London.

Native People gained recognition for their pressing indie rhythms, beautiful guitar riffs and thoughtful vocals, now with the release of ‘Figure It Out’ on 28th October and their inaugural UK headline tour in November, the Kent four-piece will be bringing their 80’s inspired indie electronica and pure pop sensibility to the next level.
