This is the first track I've created after wrapping up my new album “aes.thet.ics”. There is always uncertainty as to what I want to work on after releasing a collection of material. (or if I need a break)It's a combination of relief/fulfillment, mixed with self imposed pressure as to needing to come up with ideas for future work.

Going back to minimal piano remains a comforting direction. For me it's always a rewarding emotional release.

Seagull was kind enough to share a childhood memory with me of fishing boats with old spark plug engines, the scent of the sea, the sound of gulls looking for a meal, all of which he had put into a lovely musical portrait.  It is a different world compared to the childhood I had growing up in suburban Denver, Colorado.  Now with us both in our later years we get to meet on this wonderful platform called Soundcloud, and I asked if I could tag along with him as he shared this lovely memory. Report to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization from Admiral Aloysius Jebediah Ebedkenezer Krank VII on behalf of the International Space Collaboration concerning Chapter 14 of the memoirs of Natt Brus. Said chapter 14 is herein decoded and translated into a series of sound waves, in accordance with primary objective number one of our commission and stated aim to commit the unrecorded compositions of Natt Brus to a permanent sound recording medium. 

On May 10, 1964, on the outskirts of Marfa, Texas, Natt Brus, then known as Bruce Knotts, attended a tent revival of the itinerant preacher Marshall Applewhite. As he sat among an awed crowd of seekers and charismatics, he saw the alleged Christ incarnate pretend to heal the lame and the sick and declare a new vision of the eschaton. Piercing the mind of one of the revelers, Knotts perceived the ecstatic expectation of salvationary deliverance instilled by this strange but magnetic man. This song is the melodic and rhythmic distillation of this ecstatic state enjoyed by one who expects to leave the mortal coil to “board the comet Halle-Bopp, and ride it to the very top.” 

This decoding and translation was performed by Monkey Blood Lowdown, who translated the percussive and bass guitar sounds, Nic, who translated the vocal sounds, and I, who have added the guitar sounds. On behalf of my fellow collaborators, I thank UNESCO for entrusting us with this important task.

Here you see the last confirmed photo of the legendary songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, philologist, polyglot, love doctor, humanitarian, autodidact, amateur massage therapist, expert woodworker, cattle rancher, and faith-healer, Natt Brus. He was born Bruce Knotts in Rocky Springs, Ms in 1942. In 1964, Knotts founded a small communal musical and religious society- the so-called Sacred Order of Zoroastrian Gyrations- in Marfa,Texas. By 1967, the commune was making headlines as a “cult” devoted to the ritual sacrifice of alpaca and shetland ponies. On the run from the Texas Rangers and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he assumed the alias ‘Natt Brus” and escaped to the Swedish wilderness. There, he began his search for what he called the “Monomental.” After penning his autobiography and manifesto, Brus and his mistress Fannie Assingham disappeared in his spruce, tarp and chicken wing biplane, leaving nary a trace. 

Brus’s followers never gave up hope that their spiritual and musical guide had faked his death in order to achieve the long sought for state of pure “monomentality,” a pure permanent hypnotic state of groove. In April 2020, a purported manuscript of his autobiography surfaced on the black market of Cairo alongside lost scraps of Gnostic scripture. An ad hoc international consortium of scholars determined that this manuscript of Brus’s life’s work- which he called The Nekkid Truth of Natt Brus- was indeed authentic. However, the work’s most important chapters- those disclosing the true nature of the monomental and its attainment- were not written in Latin letters, but a strange kind of coded musical notation decipherable only by those initiated in the esoteric traditions of Brus’s own Sacred Order of Zoroastrian Gyrations. The international consortium, under the aegis of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, immediately commissioned an international collaboration with two express aims: 1) to commit the unrecorded compositions of Natt Brus to a permanent sound recording medium; and 2) to translate Natt Brus’s Theory of Ultimate Monomentality to sound.  

These collaborators are the bearers of the seal of the Sacred Order of Zoroastrian Gyrations and holders of its secret teachings. They include:
