The In Search of Sanctuary EP is reflective of my mind during the first few months of the pandemic. Being boxed up in my room, not being able to go out on walks and enjoy the things which normally keep me sane was really getting to me. So I wrote these tunes kind of describing what was going on internally. The tracks Before the Dawn and Sundown Sky focus on wanting to have the sense of awe I get from seeing sunrises and sunsets. Forests Edge centres around that feeling you get when you go out walking, that sense of peace from seeing awe-inspiring views, which I couldn’t really do because I was part of the extremely vulnerable group.
Digital Life stands apart from the tracks, in that it’s really about the time when I started to realise being on my computer was making the whole boxed-in feeling worse. So that track’s a little less dreamy and restful and a bit more harsh and agitated. During that time I started sitting down and listening to a vinyl each day, trying to get away from digital social media and all that, so that’s why it sounds a bit more analogue and wobbly. The French Horn solo in the middle is kind of like things gradually feeling less artificial again.
Working with Fearbace on Forests Edge was also a blast, and I’m super excited about more work we’ve got in the pipeline that we’ll announce on a future date.

2018 was a year that I'll never forget. It was unique in that despite having started studying at my first choice college, having money, a loving family, lots of friends and lots of all the things people often strive after, I was completely flat, and terrified of meaningless existence. Then I got saved, and Jesus changed my life completely. A couple of months later I got seriously ill, and nearly died. Between September and November I spent my time isolated in a solitary hospital room with nothing but a bed and 4 walls, which I was not allowed to leave, completely drawn away from all the things that for my entire life so far I thought were meaningful to strive for in their own right; being constantly pumped with chemicals through my arms. And yet I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that those were the most precious, peaceful and joyful moments I'd ever had, because everything apart from God is contingent, but now Jesus lives in me. 

Here's to a 2019 free from sickness, and full of joy :)

Jesse Francis - Call Last Night (Natus Remix)

"Sketches" is a little collection of three jazz-inspired shorts, as I experiment beyond my home-genres of classical music and drum 'n' bass. The opening track "Negentropy" begins chaotically with two competing ideas, drawing closer together as the track progresses. The second track "Paper Windmill" is in a groovy 7/8 time signature but remaining relaxed throughout, featuring a soothing mono-synth solo inspired by my friend Tim Lallemant. And closing the short trio is the track "Greenside Rd.", depicting the summer-heat of my precious evening walks in and around where I used to live, leading me to a peaceful bench in the Church garden nearby.
