We’re excited to announce the latest drop from Tru Thoughts' newest signee, Footshooter, aka South London producer and DJ Barney Whittaker. After the success of his anthemic broken house single “Here To Learn” featuring Andre Espeut, Footshooter returns with the slick and breezy “Obelisk,” dropping on Tuesday, September 17th. This one’s a true collaboration, as Barney links up with two heavyweights in the game—rappers Natty Wylah and brother portrait—for a deep, cosmic cut that blends introspective bars with body moving rhythms.

Reflecting on the magic of the collab, the trio share a mutual admiration for each other’s craft. Footshooter says, “I had wanted to get Natty and Portrait on a track together for years, knowing that their flows would complement each other perfectly.” Natty Wylah adds, “Bouncing off artists that I am inspired by is a beautiful thing… Footshooter sent the sonics and they provoked some cosmic but gritty like the city is imagery… joining forces with brother portrait is magical - one for the lyricists to geek to and the freaks to move their feet to!!” brother portrait echoes the sentiment: “It's always an honour to be invited to offer vocals for a Footshooter tune. Natty is a wicked and wise MC who I've wanted to connect with for a while. The instrumental had us both bouncing and ponderous, Natty's hook set the tone and off we went. Footshooter’s signature sound draws from broken beat, jazz, house, and beyond, creating a soulful, forward-thinking fusion that pays homage to its roots. His past work as Footshooter and as part of SAUL (alongside Jack Stephenson-Oliver on Rhythm Section International) has garnered love across the airwaves, from BBC Radio 1 and 1XTRA to Jazz FM and Rinse FM, with support from tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, Zakia, Bradley Zero, Alexander Nut, and Jamz Supernova. As a resident on Balamii Radio for the past five years, Footshooter’s monthly show 'Sonic Fruits' has been a hub for creative collaborations, hosting artists like Brother Portrait, Allysha Joy, Laura Misch, and many more.

Known for his musically diverse live sets, Footshooter has graced iconic stages from Boiler Room London to Alexandra Palace, The Jazz Cafe, and the Barbican Centre. He’s also a staple on the festival circuit, having performed at Brainchild, We Out Here, and Love Supreme.

Norah Jane and Mor.lov are back with another genre-bending track, "Come Around", featuring the hushed, smoky vocals of Razeen. This standout from their forthcoming album, ‘GODSPEED’, beautifully fuses neo-soul, trip-hop, and hip-hop influences into a moody, atmospheric soundscape. With its haunting Rhodes piano chords setting the tone, the track feels like a late-night reflection on love and longing.

"Come Around" invites listeners into a world of fluid, genre-defying music. The interplay between Norah Jane and Razeen's vocals creates a dreamlike tension, as the two voices weave in and out of one another with an almost hypnotic effect. Razeen’s blunted delivery pairs perfectly with Norah’s softer, more melodic tone, drawing you into the emotional core of the song.

The production, helmed by Mor.lov, leans into a neo-soul-meets-trip-hop vibe, blending downtempo beats with jazzy undertones. Towards the end of the track, a delicate flute melody enters, lifting the song into a softer, more contemplative space as it fades out. Mor.lov notes.

"Come Around" captures the spirit of collaboration that has driven Norah Jane and Mor.lov's work from the beginning, combining their own styles with Razeen’s unique vocal touch. The track hints at the vast sonic landscape of ‘GODSPEED’, an album that traverses everything from jazz fusion and DnB to lofi-jazzy beats, all anchored by Norah's rich vocals.

Mor.Lov tell us, "Creating this album has been a significant journey, both challenging and rewarding. What started as the idea for an EP eventually grew into a full album, with the entire process taking about a year. We began with 34 demos and gradually narrowed it down to 16 tracks. Throughout, it was all about exploring ideas, getting into the studio, and letting the music take shape naturally.

Working with Norah and the other artists was an incredible experience. The process was intuitive—whether I was playing keys or drums, we would bounce ideas off each other, finding the right direction without overthinking it. Of course, there were some creative disagreements along the way, but once we focused on the music, something beautiful always emerged. I think this is completely natural when both parties are striving for the best possible result. The collaboration with session musicians also added immense depth and richness to the final product. Looking back, I’m grateful for every part of the journey—the challenges, the moments of harmony, and the creative flow we discovered together."

UK-based jazz collective Snazzback returns this November with their highly anticipated new EP, Within and Without, released on Worm Discs. The project is an exploration of conflict—both internal and external—brought to life by a powerful lineup of vocalists and MCs from around the globe. Each artist brings their unique voice to this thematic thread, adding depth and diversity to the EP’s dynamic soundscape.

The first single, "As The World Around Me Burns," showcases Snazzback's signature fusion of jazz and hip-hop, with a hint of drum and bass. The track's dark, shimmering instrumental creates the perfect backdrop for prolific MC Rider Shafique, whose laid-back, spoken-word delivery embodies reflection and peace in the midst of chaos. Shafique’s distinct style draws on classic dub poetry, merging seamlessly with the instrumental’s moody, introspective tones.

With an established career across drum & bass, dubstep, and dancehall, Rider Shafique is no stranger to the UK’s bass-heavy music scene. His versatility as a live performer and recording artist has earned him collaborations with key producers and labels such as Deep Medi, Shogun Audio, Critical Music, and Young Echo. From minimalist dubstep to high-energy dancehall, Shafique’s adaptability is a testament to his wide-ranging influences. As he describes it, “UK music borrows from lots of different elements, so as a vocalist, there are lots of different aspects that inspire me. It’s like a melting pot, and that’s why my style is how it is, it’s a reflection of who I am.”

Snazzback’s 'Within and Without EP' continues their tradition of blending genres and pushing sonic boundaries. Known for their eclectic fusion of UK jazz, broken beats, and dub influences, the collective’s hybrid sound has made waves on stages like Glastonbury and Ronnie Scott’s. On this release, the group delves deeper into their love of UK dance music, drawing on the driving energy of dubstep pioneers like DMZ and the intricate breakbeats of Source Direct. Yet, true to their jazz roots, the result is a joyful and free-flowing exploration, reminiscent of Miles Davis and Pharoah Sanders.

As Snazzback prepares to tour the new EP, fans can expect a live experience that weaves together the rich textures of UK bass music with the improvisational spirit of jazz—a sound that continues to evolve and capture imaginations far beyond the jazz scene.

Exclusive Premiere: Snazzback "As The World Around Me Burns" (feat Rider Shafique)

KAT-TET’s first and only album, WOMEN, originally released in 1985, is a rare gem that blends the vibrant rhythms of West Indian jazz with Caribbean influences. 

Led by pianist Patrick Jean-Marie, the group fuses jazz with Biguines, jazz-funk, and Gwoka, creating a groundbreaking sound that captures the essence of Guadeloupe’s rich musical heritage. This long-awaited reissue by Symbole Records, set for vinyl release on October 25, brings this holy grail of jazz back to life.

As part of Patrick Jean-Marie's legacy, WOMEN showcases the free-spirited nature of his work. Symbole Records founder  DJ Mambo Chick is planning to record new tracks with Jean-Marie and his band, slated for release in 2025.
