Fika with Vicky’s guest this week is Tory Kokoska. We’ll be focusing on his fresh release of Bogowie - A Study of Eastern Europe’s Ancient Gods.

“T.D. Kokoszka grew up in Texas with a Jewish mother and a Polish-American father. While he was aware of roots going back to Eastern Europe from both families, he found it hard to learn very much about them. He knew that Polish people would whack one another with palm leaves around Easter, and he knew that his great-grandmother purportedly believed in forest spirits known as borowy. However, it wasn't until he was in his teens that he became vaguely aware of an ancient people known as the Slavs who gave rise to the Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Slovakian, Slovene, and Czech languages.

T.D. Kokoszka has long cultivated connections with ADF (Arn Draiocht Fein) and utilized their research-oriented methodology for his own purposes. He also used his time at Texas State to research leading scholars like Vernadsky and Ivanits on the topic of Slavic history while simultaneously pursuing his B.S. there. He lives in Austin, TX.”

Wilza is proud to announce the upcoming release of his highly anticipated four-track EP, “New Jack House Vol. 1,” set to drop on his own label, SwingBeat Records. The streaming release date is set for Dec 20th! 
This vibrant release is a bold tribute to the genre that inspired it—New Jack Swing—delivering a fresh twist on its timeless sound for the electronic music scene. 

New Jack Swing, a genre that masterfully blended R&B, hip-hop, and funk, dominated the airwaves in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. But despite its rich legacy, it has remained surprisingly underexplored in the realm of electronic music. Enter Wilza, who has made it his mission to revive and reimagine the genre, transforming its infectious grooves and soulful melodies into modern dancefloor anthems.

“There’s a magic to New Jack Swing that I feel has been slept on,” says Wilza. “While many genres have been reinvented in electronic music, this one hasn’t had its moment in the spotlight. ‘New Jack House Vol. 1’ is my way of bringing these classics back into the conversation—nostalgic yet redefined for today’s audience.”
