The PB Underground, led by star drummer Pete Ray Biggin, is the UK’s new funk sensation. Singled out by funk legends Tower of Power to support them at their sellout Koko show in March 2012, audience and reviewers agreed that the PBUG gave the industry giants a run for their money. “This was a slick amalgam of funk and jazz riffing, loose enough to attract people who appreciate improvised music, and funky enough to satisfy a heritage funk audience. Biggin more than lived up to his cult drummer reputation” – Stephen Graham, Jazzwise. In November 2011 they performed to a packed out Jazz Café as part of the London Jazz Festival, and the band have previously appeared at many of London’s top jazz venues including Pizza Express Dean Street, the Pigalle Club, Cargo and the Kensington Roof Gardens. The PBUG’s rhythm and horn sections are handpicked from the top session players in London, all experienced funk touring and recording artists of the highest calibre. Guest singers include Brendan Reilly (Basement Jaxx), Imaani (Incognito), Daniel Pearce (Dizzee Rascal), Vanessa Haynes and Patrick Alan.

Pete Ray Biggin features in drummerworld.com’s list of the world’s top drummers, and has recently appeared as one of eight finalists in the World’s Greatest Drummer concert 2011 at the Warwick Arts Centre. Pete has played regularly with names including Level 42, Incognito, Amy Winehouse, Chaka Khan and Mark Ronson, and recently appeared in the Prince’s Trust Rock Gala Concert at the Royal Albert Hall with Joss Stone, Alison Moyet, Cerys Matthews, Boy George, Nik Kershaw & Midge Ure. Pete is not only a phenomenal drummer but also a gifted bandleader and songwriter; the PBUG set list is a mix of the band’s original songs and niche funk cover favourites of the PBUG.
