Kri Records strike back with a cassette compilation under an
appropriate name: Trust the Rust! Rust dealers come from all over
the globe.

Nasty electro cuts are served by LA-based Ole Mic Odd who
has released on labels such as Zement, Italian producer and the
mighty Gravitational Waves owner DJ Nephil, British veteran
Chupacabras with seals of approval on L.I.E.S. among others, and
our Russian friend Larionov, who regularly puts out bangers for
Rotterdam Electronix. The Electro part of the compilation is
rounded by the local Ljubljana legend operating as a DJ and
Honest Work label owner, 198319831983.

EBM-ish march is saluted by Black Dot, the duo of Christian Kroupa
and Le Chocolat Noir, soon releasing music on Mechatronica and
responsible for our first release. Christian has also joined forces
with the Dallas and Science Cult native Aura Nox. NYC and wave EBM bangers are represented by R Gamble, Spinal is an up-and-coming producer from Chile having released a great EP on Pildoras Tapes, while Bianco Negativo is an Italian duo behind one of our fav
labels, Marguerite Records.

I am starting a series of mixes that I will be doing in the long term where we will be studying the footprint of some of the most significant movements in electronic music history.

I wanted to dedicate the first episode to the sound of Birmingham. Coming accross techno and some other orbiting genres from the city of Birmingham, UK was a very shocking eye opening experience for many of us. And I can only imagine how much of a greater impact it must have caused back in the days.

The sound in question was kickstarted by a handful of pioneers such as Karl O'Connor, Anthony Child, Mick Harris and some others who re-interpreted what had been happening in a similar context in Detroit. Some of them, like Justin K. Broadrick, had previously been involved in metal bands of great international importance such as Napalm Death or Godflesh, an influence that surely played a role on their take on techno music.

But the sound of Birmingham is not exclusively limited to techno. Among the different waves of artists that sprouted in the city, there were some who dedicated their projects to Breakbeat, Drum n Bass or experimental music in many shapes. My goal when I recorded this mix was to represent a bit of every one of them, spread through about three decades of history.

Evidently, the sound of Birmingham was replicated in many other parts of Britain and Europe. However, when it came to selecting the records I'd be using, I decided to stick to artists who grew up in Birmingham (also referred to as "brummies").
