Osprey Eating A Fish

"Unity in Diversity" is a duet for human and computer. Performed by Andrew R. Brown and CIM at the “Improvising Algorithms” concert as part of the Musical Metacreation Weekend in Sydney on Saturday 15 June 2013. In this work the human performer plays a keyboard synthesizer and the computer software (CIM) listens, analyzes, and responds in real time as a duet partner. The concert was curated internationally and this work was selected alongside leading contributions from Australian and overseas artists, all working in human-computer interactive music. This performance is part of an integrated practice-led research process where the theory, software, composition and performance are all undertaken by the same researchers. We are exploring how autonomous musical agents ideally display independent creative capacity, behaviour and intent. Beyond displaying autonomy, musical agents should ideally seek to create unity in diversity. This performance was part of the demonstration and evaluation of the experimental CIM software that implements a novel interactive musical duet model derived from analysis of human musical duet interactions. This duet performance with CIM combines ‘conversational’ interaction with ‘inter-part elision’ to simultaneously create both a sense of independent musical agency and cohesive ensemble unity. While no formal evaluation was done as part of this performance—it was selected and presented with a focus on its aesthetic credibility— two academic papers have been published about evaluations of the system from the perspectives of performer and audience.

Unity In Diversity

It is with the greatest of pleasure that we present our 100th release. A remix of Eudaimonia’s Uroboros is befitting for the occasion, a collaboration between Eudaimonia, label founder Nick Coleman and Düsseldorf singer Julika Elizabeth.

The vocal session from Julika, recorded by the legendary German engineer Peter Krick, was to be the catalyst and inspiration for Coleman’s remix. Recorded in one takes, Julika lay down every part in an hour, without a single retake. Her aura and energy in the session was truly captivating, powerful & transcendental 🤯The Hindu mantra “Om Namah Shivaya” she performs is a popular passage to further know and understand your own self.

Eudaimonia’s Uroboros is an eternal cycle and ultimately the cause of this chain of events. His remix parallels a similar philosophical after thought, the process of going back around, conjuring a new interpretation to further know and understand oneself.

Although he tends to branch out into many various genres under 'House', he particularly enjoys mixing Melodic Techno, Indie House and Progressive House.

After a few of his distinctive tracks began to be played internationally at festivals and clubs, it was clear that his sound was instantly bringing crowds together. 

This lead him to play shows across North America in only his second year of producing. Rem has since signed with established Melbourne Label, Suckmusic.

The Strife in Striving Podcast - Episode 1

Tactical Temporalities is a semi-improvised live coding performance that manipulates algorithmic descriptions of musical processes in the context of an Algorave setting. The work employs algorithms developed through research into musically salient computational processes and insights from studies in music theory and music perception. These are combined into a interactive performance that manages the dance of agency between the human musician and semi-autonomous computational systems. Stylistically, Tactical Temporalities, is metrically regular, harmonically diatonic and utilises electronic and sampled timbral elements typically of those employed in electronic dance music.

Ripples - Synthesizer Arrangement

Label founder Nick Coleman’s forthcoming album is the result of two years pre-production, research, development and innovation at the forefront of electronic music technology and live performance.

In 2017 Coleman programmed software enabling him to play synthesisers and iOS instruments using the violin, becoming the first violinist in the world to achieve this. Pioneering synthesiser makers Moog and Elektron invited Coleman to beta test their software and iOS synths, as he forges ahead, re-defining the possibilities of electronic music and live performance.

Nick Coleman is a music producer & live performer from Melbourne Australia, based in Dusseldorf. A classically trained violinist (A.Mus) and guitarist Coleman completed a Bachelor of Music at Queensland University of Technology.

To date Coleman has written and produced numerous ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Dance Chart Top 10's, International Top 10 Pop Chart tracks, Beatport Top 10's, and a club hit voted into 'The Australian Top 100 Greatest Dance Tracks of All Time'.

Support from Carl Cox, Joe Goddard (Hot Chip), DJ Hell, Annie Mac (BBC Radio1) and Moguai has seen Coleman’s music performed at some of the most recognised, radio stations, clubs and electronic festivals around the world including, BBC Radio One, Triple J, Space Ibiza, DC10, Glastonbury Festival, Time Warp and Kappa Futur Festival. His music has been licensed to global music brands including Ministry of Sound, MTV, Kontor Records (Germany), and Sweat It Out (Australia)

In 2016 Coleman was commissioned by iconic Australian band Yothu Yindi and the Treaty Project to write and produce music for the band. His work was performed at their sold out Australian shows and the bands performance at the 2018 Australia Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.

In 2019 Coleman developed and programmed software enabling him to play synthesisers and iOS instruments using the violin, becoming the first violinist in the world to achieve this. During the album recording process, pioneering synthesiser makers Moog and Elektron invited Coleman to beta test their software and iOS synths.

Released the 22nd January 2021, Nick Coleman’s debut album ‘Live’, is the first in a series of three live performance albums and the result of two years pre-production, research, development and innovation at the forefront of electronic music technology and performance.
