Muromets - Winter

This spring I haven't been to the island yet because the war has started. I thought about whether the war could take Muromets from me or spoil it? Maybe yes. But at the same time, no. Because this place didn't always exist. Muromets seems ancient, but in fact it is a young sandy island. It was built by the Dnipro river. It was not always in Kyiv.
So I realized that the importance of this place is not in the place itself, but behind it. Barbarians may come and burn down a house. But the one who built it will stay and build a new one. Barbarians can kill him too. But the Building will continue anyway.
Barbarians have no power because they can't build.

Muromets - Spring

I still haven't been to the Muromets island even once because it's closed for military purposes. And now this series of mixes are not to walk around the island, but more to remember, to imagine the place that cannot be reached because of the war. I'm not going to stop making this mixes though. Summer has gone, but Indian summer is still here. Enjoy ♡

Muromets - Indian Summer

Before the war, I liked to walk around the island at night. There was a special atmosphere in dark. And it wasn't intimidating. The fields and trees were asleep, the whole island was sleeping peacefully, and I walked on it. And it seemed that it’s even more calmly for the island to sleep in my company.
The darkness on the island didn't scare me because I knew it was just night. Now I know what real darkness is. Darkness that can be scary. But I also know that I can look into the darkness as a prey, as a predator or as light.

You are listening to the worldwide service of Radio Ukraine. This show explores the roots of Ukrainian radio, which ironically began not through waves but wires—more like a telephone system. People used small plastic speakers at home, nicknamed "chatterboxes," for background bla-bla during the day.  

Over time, this old-school radio became a rural staple, still found in some villages today. For my generation, its sound evokes carefree childhoods in a newly independent Ukraine, now carrying even deeper meaning. This show reimagines a space where that radio lives on, blending Ukrainian music from all eras with pieces from the radio archive.

Andrew Bez is a cross-genre selector from Kyiv with extensive creative experience as a war journalist, screenwriter, copywriter, director, and actor.  Since 2022, Andrew has been running a radio show titled “Worldwide Service of Radio Ukraine,” dedicated to the roots of Ukrainian radio. 

One day, Andrew constructed a simulation of a radio speaker in his kitchen, using an old laptop, cheap small speakers, and special equalisation to replicate the sound of old radios.
