Welcome to the archive of EP-61 of the Nu Disco Your Disco Radio Show. I am super excited about this episode since it's an exclusive guest mix done for us by none other than the man they call the godfather of the West Coast House movement, Jay-J out of San Francisco. Not only was he behind some of the greatest House Music hits of the early to late 2000s on such labels as Defected, Naked Music, OM, Moulton Studios, and Shifted Music to name a few but he was also nominated for a Grammy for a Jill Scott remix he did.

He has always been one of my idols and I am very honored to call this talented producer and DJ a close friend and a mentor. I hope you enjoy his mix as much as I have. Its been on repeat at the studio.

Ricardo Torres, a West Coast DJ, is known for blending deep, soulful house and disco with a smooth, sultry West Coast vibe. His music is crafted for true dance music enthusiasts, delivering uplifting, groovy, and sexy experiences rooted in the underground scene.

Ricardo’s DJ journey began in 1987 at a college radio station in Montreal, Canada, where he initially spun industrial electronic music. By 1988, he was introduced to Chicago House and was captivated by its fresh energy, changing his musical direction. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, where the city’s sun-drenched, soulful vibe and influences from DJs like Jay-J, Marques Wyatt, Julius Papp, Mark Farina, and Miguel Migs drew him toward the deeper West Coast sound.

In 2000, Ricardo pioneered sharing his mixes online, a bold and innovative step that garnered him international recognition. This exposure led to global performances and opportunities, while he also became a syndicated radio host on satellite and online platforms.

Around 2016 Ricardo partnered with Germany’s Nu Disco Your Disco (NDYD), a leading advocate for the Nu Disco genre. Their collaboration birthed the NDYD Radio Show, which Ricardo hosts weekly, showcasing top global talent and steadily growing a loyal listener base. For Ricardo, Nu Disco offers a modern bridge for the soulful West Coast vibe to resonate with newer generations.

While underground music trends have evolved over the decades, Ricardo’s passion remains unwavering: playing music that inspires people to get up, dance, and celebrate the timeless groove of house music.
