Nkisi produces intense, powerful sonics influenced by ancient Kongo rhythms, rhythmic noise, our planetary electromagnetic grid, and experimental improvisation. The creative musician and visual artist is one of the co-founders of NON Worldwide. She recently launched her label INITIATION and research platform The Secret Institute, exploring the secrets and mysteries of vibrational rhythm, the ritual as a socio-political tool, invisible gestural sonics, noise tantra, and strategies of trance.

Sound’s ability to touch the listener, to involve them via emotional and physical affection, turns the sonic into a partner in the fight for a more just world. Sonic Agency is led by urgency and the pressing need for articulation. It is an effort to enable and reinforce transformative processes in our societies, while critically questioning hegemonic systems. Sonic Agency opens up space for a caring community of equals. Sonic Agency is grounded in the sonic’s ability to introduce the feeling of connectivity, and the possibility of community – a community yet to come.

ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ᴀʀᴛɪꜱᴛ

Rama is a multidisciplinary artist and DJ. She grew up between Egypt and France and is now based in Berlin. She co-founded the Cairo based independent music platform irsh in 2019. As a DJ, Rama swiftly made a name for herself in Cairo’s electronic and dance scene by performing at underground parties such as VENT and MOSHTRQ. She is recognized for her ability to draw from a diverse range of sounds without being constrained by genres, with a method of mixing more akin to live mashups than regular blends. Rama also hosts a monthly show on Noods Radio, a space that allows her to play music that may not always be suited for the club.

Spurred on by the acuteness of current global events, we are raising our voices in solidarity with the oppressed, the tortured, the silenced, and the unheard. The events that shake Palestine and Israel are resulting in an ever-tighter spiral of violence and desperation. They are a horrific wake-up call that brutally brings the precarious situation on our planet to the fore. The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and Israel’s collective punishment of Palestinian civilians are intolerable. On top of that, the military actions threaten the lives of the remaining hostages in the Gaza-Strip, and even more innocent people in Gaza.
