This is a song about the murder, in 1973, during the siege of Wounded Knee, of Anna Mae Aguash.   Her body was found in a remote area of the reservation, with a bullet hole behind her ear.  I heard about the events that year,  and the song lived in me for nearly 20 years before coming out.  But native women have been disappearing the entire time.  There have been other songs written, many questions asked, no answers have yet come.

This song is inspired by the music created by black musicians out of conditions that are so horrifying, and by the people who create and enforce those conditions.

Lemonade

This is a song about a special friendship that is not a romance.  I wrote it to explain it to the world, but mostly to myself.  The recording proudly features David Bennet's guitar and bass.

Saturn Song is the result of asking a question of my dead father.  I asked, 'Just what am I supposed to get out  your death, just when I needed you most?'  This song is his answer.

Gathering Darkness Blues

The song is an allegory about 9/11; many of those who died were greasing the wheels of an international death machine.  It's about the futility of killing as a means of redress.  We ought to concentrate on housing the homeless, feeding the hungry, nursing the sick, healing the planet, and murder is not an apt instrument for any of that.
