In 1954, Alan Turing was convicted. The charge? Having a relationship with someone of the same sex. Alan then had to choose his sentence: prison or a hormonal treatment that is the equivalent of chemical castration... The man of logic was ostracized by the intolerance of the time, simply for not hiding his sexuality. He committed suicide at the age of 41.

After 60 years, the Queen of England granted Turing a royal pardon. It was certainly too late for the young man, who would undoubtedly have contributed much more to science and would have lived to see his achievements in history.
