National Education Association President Dennis Van Roekel attended the Democratic National Convention last week and said when compared to the Republican National Convention there was a clear contrast.

 [Van Roekel1]: You couldn't write a script that more clearly demonstrates the difference in two visions for America. Both in terms of total vision, but also in education.

 Van Roekel said he was taken aback by Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s position on higher education.

 [Van Roekel2]: He talked about if college costs are too high get a loan from your parents. I'm standing here today and if those two criteria had been in place I wouldn't be here.

 Van Roekel said President Barack Obama has been a clear leader in education and laid out what the President’s done in his first term.

 [Van Roekel3]: he chnaged the loan program so money doesn't go to the banks it goes to students. He increased the PELL grants. He saved 450,000 education jobs and what so critical about that is if those adults are gone students are still there. And what happens is we make up the difference with higher class size, elimination of programs students need.
