he came from nowhere Massachusetts
under the cloud of the industrial sky
he was let down long ago
when he was helpless boy
now he's in the belly of the beast
sliding his guitar where it don’t belong
he cant stop wondering why 
it still hurts after all this time

he walks round cemeteries 
looking for his mother's wing
but she’s already with the birds 
she's jiving on the wind
and he can almost hear the lullabies
she used to sing 

all the melancholy of the world can be heard
in his trickling chords of fire
but there's no peace of mind to be found
at the end of the electric wire
theres no voice out there in the cosmic dark
just protons and neutrons falling apart
