In this song, from the musical THE BATTLES, Leonardo da Vinci is trying to determine what the focus will be for his new commission from the Florentine government. He has to paint a mural of "The Battle of Anghiari," a famous battle that was known for the ferocious fighting of an aged warrior. Leonardo, facing his own issues with age and legacy, makes that "aged, mighty warrior" the central figure of the mural.
