With a music history starting in 2005, Boola​ has warmed up the decks for legends such as DJ Sneak and Eddie Richards and has played at some of the best clubs around the world such as Club der Visionaere, Panoramabar, DC-10 and Trouw. His track Balada Redo, which was released on Cabin Fever, was also featured on the Fabric 48 CD mixed by Radio Slave. In 2008, alongside Demos (Panait​), Petre Inspirescu​ and Praslea​, he represented Romania at the Worldtronics Festival in Berlin. Chances are if you’re a fan of discerning house, techno or minimal that Dudley Strangeways is a name you’ve encountered over the past couple of years. Best known for his work as the label owner at Leftback, the Nottingham-based producer has been on a real roll of late, with his recent work for Leftback indicative of the imprint’s most fruitful period to date. An increasingly popular figure in Germany, Dudley (real name Mark Pearson) is also beginning to make a mark outside of his native country, with recent gigs at Sisyphos and Golden Gate in Berlin as well as appearances at Studio Offenbach in Frankfurt and Roxy in Cologne all testament to the fact.

The ‘Leo’s Landed’ EP - the 17th release in Lefback’s burgeoning discography - kicks off with ‘Flipside Flute’, a gloriously wonky and unusual cut that’s sure to appeal to DJs reading for something different from their bag. The title track is another that showcases the producer’s knack for unconventional wares. A relentless, grinding, atmospheric track full of weighty bass kicks and off-kilter piano lines, it’s a stifling, unconventional track that will sound at its best when the night is at its strangest point.

The B side gets underway thanks to the cowbell heavy strands of ‘Perc’. Dramatic, eerie and sparse, it’s another rugged cut on display, with its shuffling beats and many relentless emphasis meaning it’s sure to make an impression in any set it finds a home in. It’s then left to the swagger of ‘Real Talk’ to conclude the release. A brisk, confident-sounding, baseline-led jam featuring a sporadic female vocal and some brilliant 8-bit sounds, it’s unlike anything else on show here, but it too is designed to create a bit of a stir. By the time this one goes deep, chances are you’ll be reeled in hook, line and sinker. Genuinely brilliant and out there stuff, Dudley Strangeways latest is every bit as fantastically odd as Pearson’s alias. Top work all around.

Somatic Sessions 008 with Senses Of Mind

'Jay Pei returns to Qilla with his Ocean of Stars EP,whichincludestwocinematicmelodictechno originals, a remix by label head Kohra and a very special reprise version with Poland's talented  classical violinist Karolina Beimcik.  
 
Jay Pei has been playing these tracks for a while and has already received some great responses, while his last EP on this label also went viral on various techno channels. He says “​The idea was to work on a follow-up to my earlier release on Qilla Records and to make a track in a similar soundscape but influenced by the music of the Middle East. It took a while to come up with the melody but in the end I think I had exactly what I wanted emotionally. It’s evocative and captivating! I had no intention of making a reprise version of it but again most amazing things happen when you least expect it." 
 
'Ocean of Stars' washes over you with lush chords and epic synths, it’s dramatic and heart swelling during the breakdown and when the groove kicks again it carries you away to the cosmos. 'Antimatter' is darker, with a taut bass line and plenty of edginess in the melodic techno moods that unfold. Filled with subtle details and a fantastic sense of sound design, it is more elegant work from Pei. First to remix 'Ocean of Stars' is label head Kohra who reimagines it as a delicate and twinkling techno roller, with broad synths and rubbery bass down low. The lead is enchanting indeed and helps make this another standout remix.'

PREMIERE : Zigan Aldi - Odin (Namito Remix) [Souq Records]

Swept away by Zigan Aldi. The ‘Odin’ EP brews with Souq Record’s traditional smoky desert flavours, evoked by Eastern instruments meeting electronica. Yet The EP is quick to cut through expectations and take a resolutely urban, robust direction: moody takeoffs, low rumbling vocals, a guitar’s singing electricity, heady bass-lines, and enveloping darkness. Odin flirts with melodic techno but never fully gives in to its calls, riding the tension between organic and electric.

Zigan Aldi debuts on Souq with this statement EP, infused with his two homes of Eastern Turkey and Berlin. His atmospheric narrative is three part: Odin rises, Heppnar strikes, Desert Hills simmers down. Three smouldering remixes by Iorie, Zuma Dionys and Namito land the story on softer tracks, completing the picture with elegance.
