For Podcast #165, we’re thrilled to bring you the live recording of F-ON’s opening set from this year’s Paral.lel Festival. 

Paral.lel was, for us, the most nourishing of soul food. Set in the spectacular, breath-taking mountains two-hours north of Barcelona, deep green tree-covered mountains enclosed the dancefloor, an endless stretch of sky reached overhead, a beautiful sound system ensured the frequencies permeated, engulfing us in their warm embrace, and a crowd of beautiful, like-minded souls came together, surrendering to the rhythms and grooves gifted to us by an impressive line-up of talent over 2.5 days.

Magic is almost inevitable when people are united by their shared, deep devotion to music. Throw in nature in its rawest, awe-inspiring form, and of course the music itself delivered with such passion and attentiveness, and you have very raw and real energetic alignment which naturally culminates in countless memorable moments. And it was indeed a weekend of magical moments - where the shadows of clouds sweeping across a canvass of trees aligning the slopes were our only reminder that life and time moved on while we lost ourselves in the mountains.

Esteemed DJ, producer and promoter from Madrid, F-ON (aka Alfonso Pomeda) was on the festival’s opening duties on Friday afternoon, ensuring the warmest of welcomes to the Paral.lel community as they arrived on site. And indeed, his set was as warm and inviting as his smile; deep and down-tempo, with sultry grooves and long, steady, alluring mixes; frequencies gently reverberating off the mountains and trees surrounding us, reaching out and inviting us in. What better way to kick-start a very special weekend celebrating the music we love.

"Lately I’ve been dwelling in a strange in-between," BLUME shares, "and this mix lives there too. No bpm to hold onto, no genre to fall into. Ghosted rhythms, soft dissonance, moments of friction, and traces of fourth world brass dissolving into smoke. Not meant to resolve, just to linger."

Embodiment 071 - BLUME

We’re excited to welcome @joaquincornejomusic to our sixth SoundSculptors episode. The Ecuadorean musician recorded a stunning improvised live set for us in collaboration with talented visual artist Wraura, who created a giant impressive painting during the span of the whole performance. They work in some kind of symbiosis while creating spontaneous and live, very fascinating.

More about Joaquín Cornejo

Joaquín Cornejo is a composer and music producer from Quito, Ecuador. Since 2018, he has established a proposal that interweaves different musical styles in a loose and playful manner. Inspired by the non-representational nature of sound and it’s relation to spirituality Joaquín explores everything from ambient to polyrhythmic electronic and acoustic music. His performances are characterized by improvisations with electronic instruments such as modular synthesizers and analog drum machines and occasional full-band format shows.

SoundSculptors No 6 - Joaquín Cornejo 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦

Next up we have Columbian based DJ, Lopar. Originally from the central mountains of Colombia, Lopar remains in an inexhaustible search and exploration, with the ability to navigate effortlessly through different styles, from ambient, minimal, house, deep, dub to down tempo, dnb, breaks, IDM and more. He is currently NATURAL’s resident DJ, with a trajectory that is strengthened with more than 8 years of experience in which he has had the privilege of sharing booth with artists such as Neel, Polygonia, Blazej Malinowski, Paula Koski, Anthony Linell among others. Lopar carefully elaborates his sets, achieving each time to produce a different and unique soundscape and experience with a great musical instinct; transporting the listener to different spaces and times and transmitting emotions through his music.

1. How and why did you get into producing / dj’ing?
- It all started in 2014, when I was still a raver. I began to feel the need to convey to people the feelings and emotions that great DJs made me feel when I listened to them. I wanted to show the world my vision of electronic music.

2. Who, What/where was your most coziest gig you’ve been to or experienced and why?
- Without a doubt listening to Luigi Tozzi in 2019 at the Freedom Festival (Medellín) was truly an out-of-body experience. From that moment everything changed!

3. Do you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert in the scene?
-I think both hahahaha sometimes I like to be in the quiet of my house, discovering new music and other times I prefer to be surrounded by friends sharing knowledge.

4. If you had to choose 1 track to vibe out too forever, what would it be?
- Caramel Chameleon - Dronacid [phaserinterlude mix] This track for me is a real utopia. It always brings a tear to my eye.

5. What is your routine when preparing for a gig / production/writing session? Do you have any special remedies/ mental/physical prep/ places to go to?
- 5. The days before the concert I’m always looking for new music, I like to be able to bring that touch of authenticity to my sets. The rest is pure improvisation and reading the dance floor.

CoziMix 22 : Lopar

Closing sets come with built-in pressure. But at this year’s Perpendicular Festival, Saturday wrapped up not with spectacle, but with style. Valencia-based DJ and producer Facundo, a standout discovery from the city’s ever-surprising scene, took control of the final stretch with a set that was patient, fluid, and full of character. It moved with intent, keeping the energy alive without ever pushing too hard. The kind of set that made you forget the time, anchored in rhythm and shaped by subtle shifts. A groove that spoke softly but hit deep.

Facundo’s approach to the closing slot was a slow reveal. He opened with broken, syncopated patterns before sliding seamlessly into a tight four-to-the-floor pulse. The tension built with restraint - dark, shadowy techno moments came and went, but the release was never forced. This was a set that traded hype for nuance, showmanship for control. Polyrhythmic elegance in the woods.

Delayed x Perpendicular: Facundo

Some DJs treat genre boundaries like walls; others see them as doors. Craig Gonzalez belongs firmly to the latter camp. A staple of Detroit’s underground and a resident DJ at Paxahau’s Third Thursday monthly, he has long been drawn to what happens when techno’s linear propulsion collides with the restless syncopation of drum & bass. That liminal space, the “grey area” between the two, has become one of the most fertile playgrounds in electronic music over the past decade, and Gonzalez shows why. In this mix, recorded as the opening set on the Movement main stage, he handles tempo as a fluid variable, shifting gears without friction and letting polyrhythms function as the connective tissue. It’s the kind of approach that resists the obvious peak and instead builds a topology of groove, a groove that bends but doesn’t break, carrying dancers across time signatures almost without them noticing. 

And while opening a stage that would later host Deepchord, Sama’ Abdulhadi, Octave One, and Jeff Mills could be seen as a daunting warm-up role, Gonzalez treats it less as preparation and more as architecture. Across ninety minutes, he layers patterns with patience, calibrating intensity so that tension rises and releases without tipping into spectacle. The set moves like a conversation that shifts from whispers to declarations, never overstated but always persuasive. It’s a reminder that flow is not just sequencing but narrative logic, and that true mastery lies not in domination of a dancefloor but in shaping the conditions for everything that comes after.

Immerse yourself in the subliminal drones and fever-dream ambience of Donato Dozzy collaborator Neel. Live at Nachtdigital 2015.
For most electronic music aficionados, Neel is a name that first surfaced in 2011, when the Italian producer debuted the Voices Of The Lake project alongside production partner Donato Dozzy. In the years that followed, the Roman duo has made a splash with its cinematic, long-form techno, most notably on its self-titled 2012 debut LP and a handful of EPs for labels like Prologue, Concrete, and The Bunker New York. That being said, Neel, aka Guiseppe Tillieci, didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. Prior to Voices From The Lake, he had worked as a mastering engineer, and over the years has spruced up efforts from Dozzy, Dasha Rush, Marco Shuttle, Dorisburg, Cio D’Or, Terrence Fixmer, Mike Parker, Cassegrain, Abdulla Rashim, Varg, and others too numerous to list. In 2014, he also stepped out on his own as a producer, issuing the Mars-themed album Phobos via the Spectrum Spools label. Untethered to techno’s structural requirements, his solo work finds Tillieci exploring abstract beat patterns, ambient textures, and otherworldly, dream-like moods. For Neel, sonic exploration is a worthy pursuit in its own right, and his mastery of sound only makes his surreal journeys all the more captivating.

Italian producer Neel is a meticulous producer who has earned a fine reputation for his smooth, supple and hypnotic techno output. It has come so far - both in solo form and as Voices from the Lake with Donato Dozzy - on labels like Prologue, whilst a new EP is due later this year, as is a much anticipated debut full length, Phobos, on the Spectrum Spools label. When it comes to club and festival performances, Neel is both an experienced DJ who can plot real sonic stories, but so too does he play live with Dozzy as Voices from the Lake, and more recently he has started performing cerebral AV shows with abstract visuals accompanying his heady soundscapes.
