The 2022 Edition was a special one for me, full of mixed feelings and not really in my best mental state. As soon as I was up there and got in the groove I looked up and saw all the smiles and for a moment I forgot all the bad stuff and went for the ride.
So this is my little gift to you all.

Immense thanks for all your kind words received during the festival. Before and after my set. I live for moments like this and to celebrate music in such environments with the best crowds possible.
Small, simple, good music, good people. Thats all I need.

Also thanks for continually supporting Parallel Festival. I have big plans for the future which I hope to make possible.

Refracted @ Parallel Festival 2022

Waajeed’s 2022 long player, Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz, was an aural love letter to his hometown of Detroit; an amalgam of the city’s history, coalescing the personal, political and, of course, musical past.

From the Motown soul assembly line to J Dilla’s musically dense Hip-Hop to The Stooges’ proto-Punk to the birth of Techno, the music of the Motor City has spread across the globe inspiring countless artists who in turn went on to create their own forms and genres.

Emulating this movement and transmutation, the Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz remixes 12” sees artists from three continents repurpose elements from across the LP, transforming them into productions stamped with their own trademark styles whilst retaining the spirit of each original:the UK’s Mark Broom loops sections of Right Now while speeding up the BPM for a classic UK-style techno remix; Ghana-born Yazzus takes on The Ballad of Robert O’Bryant adding a surprising number of twists and turns for a five-and-a-half-minute piece; Australians Jensen Interceptor and Assembler Code close the 12” out with their take on the album’s title and opening track neatly closing the loop, bringing us full circle to the start of the LP.

The release of Memoirs…remixes add another facet to the immensely heartfelt tribute to Detroit from one of its most talented citizens and a true milestone in the Tresor catalogue.

Neel is known for being the mas­ter­mind behind Eniss­lab Stu­dio, a mas­ter­ing and mix­ing stu­dio which is a go-to place for many, if not most, con­tem­po­rary tech­no labels. Neel is also a long time col­lab­o­ra­tor with Dona­to Dozzy, start­ing off with them per­form­ing and record­ing as Voic­es From The Lake, evolving into them co-run­ning the legendary Spazio Disponi­bile label.

Kerrie, who made a strong impression last year when she took the stage for a live set on the third night of the festival, has delivered a mix inspired by the experience at rural. Starting with the field recording sounds she collected it in Japan, you enjoy the Kerrie's iconic clear sonic sounds and intricate repetitive sounds.

Let's head back to Fuse on January 4th for two hours of technical, percussive and ambient soul. Intertwining minimalist techno, UK-influenced bass, and polyrhythmic grooves, he kept the listener focused in dreamscapes as he reflected his influences from labels like Nous’klaer, Spazio Disponibile, and his distinct attention to unconventional time signatures or drum work. Monday Off is a vinyl-only psychedelic techno label founded by Mary Yuzovskaya. Known for its mind bending, boundary pushing releases, the label has recently featured the likes of ORBE, JUDAΣ, Mike Parker, CONCEPTUAL, Viels, D-Leria, Blazej Malinowski, Michal Wolski, Xhato, Milena Glowaka and of course Mary herself, plus many many more. The mix was of course recorded in all vinyl one take session, where you can expect to hear the kind of heads down techno the label is synonymous for: deep, cerebral and mind-melting - a dedication to authentic, thought-provoking electronic music that transcends the ordinary. Italian producer Neel is a meticulous producer who has earned a fine reputation for his smooth, supple and hypnotic techno output. It has come so far - both in solo form and as Voices from the Lake with Donato Dozzy - on labels like Prologue, whilst a new EP is due later this year, as is a much anticipated debut full length, Phobos, on the Spectrum Spools label. When it comes to club and festival performances, Neel is both an experienced DJ who can plot real sonic stories, but so too does he play live with Dozzy as Voices from the Lake, and more recently he has started performing cerebral AV shows with abstract visuals accompanying his heady soundscapes.
