This Monday the 13th of August we have the duo that is taking over every event being hosted in Gauteng, the one and only Weston & Engine!

We at Darkerthanwhite are extremely honoured to host these legends as they are not only brilliant DJs, Producers, Event Organizers and people, but our big brothers. The gentlemen that gave us the first few opportunities to play events, and showing us the ins and outs of Ableton. We are extremely fortunate to have known these gents all of these years, and being able to learn off their success.

Let’s join these legends in an hour-long explanation of who and what they are via the medium we all hold very close, music!

A totally different reinterpretation of deep house rhythms and infectious melancholic melodies, make this artist completely unique. We are absolutely thrilled that such a talent from the South African region is debuting on our label, where, in addition to its original, the release is complemented by two strong remixes! The first remix was the work of the phenomenal Brazilian producer Souto, while the second was an assignment for compatriots and fellow citizens, the aforementioned Daniel, the duo Weston & Engine!

A proponent of innovation, Afro house pioneer MoBlack Records takes the genre to greater
lengths, handing the stage over to Maputo-born DJ/Producer Double Drop to extract from his
Mozambican roots and furnish two deep-seated but forward-thinking tracks, bolstered by
Myrandza’s earth-powered vocal prowess. A mosaic of vibrant, high powered tessera of sounds,
‘Mutaxo’ revs MBR398 engine buoyantly, incorporating traditional Mozambican rhythms and
Portuguese folk into Afro House for a sultry Marrabenta-infused dancefloor experience.
Meanwhile, ‘Avano’ on B-side drifts and flutters over the soul of South Mozambique in chase of
Amapiano vibrations. Bristly percussion unlock the gateway into this dreamy promenade
suffused with soothing ambient vibes, airy synths, South African rhythms, fleeting piano
melodies and unique vocal modulations.

Blanka Mazimela is one of South Africa’s finest rising talents to come out of dance music’s thriving afro-house scene within recent years. His unique sound has garnered much attention throughout Europe and beyond owing to his ongoing relationship with Germany’s revered Get Physical Music who most recently commissioned Mazimela to compile and mix their Africa Gets Physical Vol.3 compilation and have previously released his acclaimed EPs ‘Mpisi’ and ‘Ziduli Zetafa’ plus single ‘Phezulu’. 


The gifted Johannesburg based creative also features as one of the lead artists and producers of the Bantwanas (a collective of African producers, songwriters and musicians) and is the proud Head of Department for Soul Candi’s Institute of Music, South Africa’s most distributed music production course. 


With all of this experience under his belt, Mazimela is back with one of his best releases to date, an essential 3-track offering on Kunye - an exciting new label set-up by the afro house hero Shimza to showcase South African talent to a European audience.


The EP’s title track ‘Gengesi’ kicks things off boasting a mesmerizing tribal groove that encompasses descending marimba melodies, dramatic sound effects and arpeggiated synth elements to perfectly underpin the outstanding vocal performance provided by the talented Zimbabwe-born UK-based singer, Oluhle. 


Next, Mazimela delivers yet another stunning dancefloor-ready offering this time in the form of ‘Normli’, a powerful energy-laced afro-tech workout which incorporates a heavy electro-tinged bassline, a driving rhythm and lush breakdown chords to continue the release in style.


Last but not least, the respected Hungarian DJ/producer Sobek delivers his unique twist on ‘Gengesi’, opting to keep the original’s key elements but add an abundance of techy chord stabs, housey percussion and warp sound effects to create a slightly edgier afro-tech affair.
