His soulful unorthodox voice soothes and reaches inner self of listner. 
Creating instrumental cover version of his songs was a challenge as his singing skills makes it difficult to emulates the right "shrutis" (not merely notes) as he was capable of rendering shrutis in his songs, which were different from notes on equally tempered scale.
