Arriving in a locked-down UK in 2020, Australia-born Kim Ven makes warm indie pop music, flavoured with folk and americana. Kim is an uplifting and empathic songwriter, writing about self-discovery and the impermanence of youth, influenced by Maggie Rogers, Leon Bridges and Lana Del Rey. 

A modern take on 60s romantic pop, Why Didn’t You Call? tells the familiar experience of being left hanging by the person you like, but still waiting by the phone for their call. “I've realised that I deserve a love better than that, and I hope anyone who listens realises that too” says Kim.

Winlaton (win-lay-ton) is the third single released by the Ilfords since their 2022 rebirth.

Our David on Winlaton: 'Winlaton was written during deep lockdown. Nothing was open and late night running was the only space I had to myself. I suppose it reflects on what methods you can try to use when you feel lost. On one late night trek however, I realised I wasn’t just lost mentally at that time but geographically as I’d managed to run all the way to Winlaton.'

Why would we girls be sad

This tune is a reminder and a plea. Our current economic climate doesn't make it easy for all to step outside and breathe, take notice of the small things and reliece the pressures that exist in our individual worlds. How wild swimming and standing by trees can regulate our vagus nerve, grounding us in our nervous system allowing us to connect with each other, relax. So it's a reminder, that even if accesss is hard, and housing is hard, and everything is hard, get a bit of fresh air, fresh water, when you can, find a plant, even in the most concrete of landscapes there is always a bit of life.

Part of the lyrics translates as -
The color of the world is twilight, and is getting darker. In an age where it is easier to imagine dystopia than a hopeful future this song really touched on some of what I was feeling whilst writing 'staring at the grain'.
