Mixed live from the Island of the Gods in Bali’s Joshua District, a Czech outpost of art and skate culture overlooking the rice fields toward the ocean complete with a skate bowl in the front. Here, I’m delving deep into edgier dance floor vibes after a year and a half lockdown in Bali.

I played against the backdrop of a giant, blue human heart sculpture, made by the fellow who designed the new Czech flag - a thoughtful connection to the Desert Hearts fam. Separated from my old group KMLN, I got to re-coagulate my soundfreqs and play a wee set that I would want to dance to.

Here's what they had to say about the set:

Kevin: What an epic event. Dave and I started DJing coincidentally the same year and for the past decade have played at many of the same events, supported each other, and shared opportunities. To have our first tag team be at this special event, especially after such a long hiatus, was truly a peak experience.

Dave: Meeting up to prepare and practice was hampered by all the things - 210 miles between us (Oakland/Reno), the holidays, an oddly limited number of flight options, and an insane blizzard that shut down the interstates.  Thankfully two years of streaming experience inspired us to practice through a combination of high fidelity Zoom and Facetime calls, Dropbox and Soundcloud.  Our mixers interfaced to Zoom, with bidirectional audio mixer monitoring + screen sharing made it possible to preview mixes, talk through sequences, flows, and visualize hot-cues.  Using a common method for marking up tracks, we were able to make it happen remotely.  Our first in-person practice session was the night before BOC, on New Years Eve, with a thrown-together DJ setup on a friends' kitchen table.

003 of our series is curated and mixed by a veteran DJ in the Northern B.C., Canada electronic music scene and current curator for the Beach Stage at Valhalla Music Festival (https://bit.ly/3Jg6uYU), DJ ABomb. A quick note, this Northern gem of a gathering (Valhalla) has been taking place since 2019 with professional staging supported by none other than PK Sound; if you’re in the neighbourhood, check it out.

Abomb has been an integral part of the electronic music scene in Northern B.C. as a club/rave promoter and DJ starting back in the golden era of the late 90s rave scene. You can usually find him at his brewery (https://bit.ly/3WJf6KL) pouring pint or spinning tunes in the back.

“This mix is what I played at the Valhalla Music Festival in 2022 which was the festival’s closing set, at the beach stage. It really is a cool venue! Under the canopy of old growth spruce and cedars trees, a dance floor of sand and sound. I started my set a little crunchy and worked my way up to some tracks that I thought would close out a festival with driving, vibey, emotional sounds.” - A-bomb

Satellite Signals Mix Series - 2023

The rains at Burning Man 2023 had ceased and the mudpocalypse was still in full swing. The weather had shut down the Camp Kinetic soundstage where I was originally locked in to open Moontribe's techno lineup on burn day (Sat) with a noon timeslot. Everything got shifted back and Moontribe ended up throwing a much bigger party later that night at our friends' camp Deaf Granny's Kitchen. Instead of opening I got to play right in the middle of the Moontribe lineup to a full dance floor of friends ready to dance their asses off, and pure magic happened. It was my honor to share this set at that perfect moment, and it's my honor to share it with you again now. Thanks for dancing with me. 🖤

From Noon until Midnight, the beats were thumping, the smiles beaming, and the dancing absolutely unstoppable! 🕺💃 Tents popped up like magic, vibrant Jellyfish art lit up the scene, shades provided the perfect chill spots, and the astroturf dance floor was alive with energy! 🔥✨
Fire spinners dazzled us, bubbles floated through the air, swimmers frolicked, the BBQ sizzled, and a boat gently rocked in the background. This was no ordinary party—this was a world-class DJ location turned into a paradise! 🌟🎶 Enjoy my closing set! A paragon of existence!
