FAN HEATER; Now a three piece, recorded 1978 I think this is still one of my fave tracks. It's very dry (deliberately so) and a bit vaudeville in feel. This song stayed in the set for a long time. Written by Neil Armstrong (on guitar), Chris Murtagh Bass and Mick Nevin drums... we sound quite tight I think!

FAN HEATER: Still a trio so very pared back - this one is straight out of the blocks. I remember playing it at the Marquee in London and my mate who was at the Royal College at the time being a bit sniffy about our set but admitting he liked this. I guess it fits the art school tag most. Neil Armstrong vocals and guitar, Chris Murtagh Bass, Mick Nevin Drums.

FAN HEATER: still a 3 piece but getting more ambitious in terms of structure. Probably a tad long and rambling but heading into existentialist territory. Think this was recorded with a few mics at our rehearsal rooms and mixed after - was it Stu Keeble?

Predestination

FAN HEATER: Sound quality a bit iffy as it's come off cassette, but the content of this song reads like my internal dialogue of the time. I was working as an art therapist in a psychiatric hospital and it shows. Listening after all this time is seems to have lots of structural elements to it which might have benefited from more instrumentation (we were still a three piece) - but it is very much a product of its time. 
Very evocative to rediscover my lines..."Maybe if I was honest I would tell them that they are the realists...instead we talk about the dinner lists..."

Loser Yeah

FAN HEATER: Now a four piece with Neil Armstrong guitar and vocals, Chris Murtagh Bass, Dave Sturge guitar and keyboards, Derrick Underhill drums...this was recorded at Britannia Row in London and mixed on a very large desk! Not sure if it was before or after we went to the States, but it sounds like us trying to make a proper 'record' :-) I do remember it was one of our most popular of the set and people used to request it when we played live.

FAN HEATER: Def know when this was written cos it mentions the year 1980 in the lyric. In fact I know I wrote it in New York. This was with our line up of Neil Armstrong guitar/vocals/ Chris Murtagh Bass guitar, Dave Sturge guitar/keyboards, Derek Underhill Drums. 
I recall us playing this song at the Other End in Greenwich village; somewhere there is a photo of us lugging the piece of furniture that is a Hammond organ into the venue... (used on just two numbers!)We played CGGBs and Max's Kansas City but I've never seen a pic of us from either of those venues.. pre mobile phones of course...
