This is a miniature acousmatic work for FM synthesizer with quarter-tone tuning and soundscapes of water and steam. These sounds are convolved with the sounds of tapping an array of gas cylinders at different microtonal pitches to create a shroud of extended partials around the synthesizer phrases.

Music is limited by the confines of its notation
system as language is limited by words and text.
My interest lies in the intersections of voiced
and unvoiced sounds. There re two movements
operating at the central axis of dialogue. One is a
movement that rests, delays, holds, and remands,
and the other one is a movement that expands,
spreads, and assimilates. This dichotomy became
the root concept leading to a contemplation
on the meaning of dialogue. For me, there are
two pillars in dialogue: prescript and extension.
Prescript has property of being fixed, but at the
same time, it is changeable within itself. Extension
is an absolute and sheer generality that cannot be
confronted. All matters in nature have this impenetrable
generality in their own way, and they
transform through a mutual resonance from their
fixed states. I hope this piece becomes an entity
that resonates beyond prescript and fuses with
audience in absolute space.

“Chained” was an effort in composing without using any form of melodic, intervalic or rhythmic motifs, which had previously been a creative challenge for me as a composer.
This piece is a result of extensive research in the music of Ligeti, Varèse and Schoenberg and their compositional and developmental methodologies.
