"Breakaway is an ALL VINYL record store specializing in used and new sounds from the 20s up through the current, with a heavy focus on 50s, 60s and 70s music of all types. We offer thousands of LPs and 45s, spanning the genres of Soul, R&B, Rock, Garage, Psych, Punk, Jazz, Blues and more. We also sell quality vintage record playing equipment, such as turntables and receivers, as well as needles and accessories of all kinds.

Breakaway just celebrated its 5 year anniversary this summer, and we look forward to many more years of digging up the best 45s, LPs, turntables & other audio gear for our customers. Breakaway was started by Austin native Gabe Vaughn (aka Secondliner), and was originally located in east Austin. Gabe hosts / DJs Austin's amazing R&B nite 'Second Sunday Sock Hop' as well as the long-running Funk & Soul party known as 'Soul Happening!'

The shop has been on North Loop, in north-central Austin, for 3 years now and business has been steadily growing. Denton, Texas native, longtime DC resident, and Mice Parade alumnus Josh LaRue (aka jLa) came on board 2 1/2 years ago and he and Gabe have been slingin' records and gear, DJ'ing, putting on events, making mixes, and generally helping provide Austin with good music on vinyl ever since! Josh holds down several regular DJ gigs in Austin, including a couple at the fabulous Hotel San Jose, and runs Soul Happening! along with Gabe. When in Austin, come check us out!! Hitting the ground running in 2012 Ruben &amp; Ra are taking a break from the studio for the first full artist release on Retrospective. Who’s capable hands better to choose for this one than our in house hero Rayko? After bringing Fil Lavin to the ever-growing Retrospective fold for RETRO005 – Soul Brother, featuring Ruben &amp; Ra’s Souled Out Dub, Rayko is back with a 4 tracker of edits, which are sure to please. 

Already causing a storm on floors across the globe People (Rayko birthday edit) harps back to the sounds of the 80’s with big synths, a hypnotic groove &amp; a bassline that can’t be resisted. Showing his true colours, Rayko delivers a dubbed out edit of The O’Jays – Heads Together with a full vocal version being this release’s FREE 320k download available on SoundCloud. On the flip is Revue bringing some house infused retro boogie swing to the E.P. before a Rayko trademark re-interpretation of Unlimited Touch - Searching To Find The One.

One could say that 2011 was Rayko’s year with his hit Broadway being recently announced as the No.1 disco track of 2011 on Juno, but we think that this is just the beginning for him with bigger things to come. Born in the Canary Islands, Rayko is a producer and DJ deeply influenced by the artists and sounds of the 70's and 80's. These influences led him to launch his own label; Rare Wiri in the summer of 2008, gaining immediate critical acclaim with it's first release making Record of the Week at Manchester's highly regarded Piccadilly Records. Rayko has an impressive portfolio of releases under his belt and has an almost insatiable thirst for editing both classics and lost gems in his distinctive and infectious style. Rayko is also an artist central to the Retrospective All Starrs project, which will feature a variety of names from the slowed down house and nu disco scene.
