Compilation Vol.1 is the presentation card of the new Berlin based record label ODD Pleasures including music by Alvee, Random Atlas, Persona RS, Marzian, Alex Aguayo, Ducati Flux, Javier Martinez, Fat&Bald, Ludviq and Aural Trace. 
 
For their debut release ODD Pleasures has prepared a Worldwide Various Artists Compilation including tracks by well known producers from Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Turkey. Every artist presents a delicate piece of their musical exploration that gives life to an obscure, mysterious and futuristic sonic universe. Powerful beats, underpinned by catchy and dark bass lines, New Wave synthetic textures and atmospheres with hints of Post Punk and Krautrock elements. ODD Pleasures first compilation proposes a storytelling journey which crosses the line between the dancefloor and casual listening, a soundtrack to anyone who seeks for an immersive driving force.

Yann Aubertot aka Monoblok (SXDNS204) launches his own label – Castle Of Tone – with a powerful debut release, peeps! And the origin of his new adventure has a hell of a cute story: “Two years ago, my neighbours and close friends’ ten-year-old kids asked me to show them how electronic music was made. A few days later, I took Sixtine and Nathanaël on a tour of the studio and, in a matter of minutes, they were having loads of fun getting their hands on a Monotron and a Korg MS1. We ended up recording chunks of crazy noise, along with some sort of private joke related lyrics that Sixtine proudly spoke into a microphone. At the end of the day, both kids were delighted and proud to have their parents listen to their own two-minute-long electronic track, and I realized that it had been a while since I hadn’t had that much fun in the studio”, said Yann. 

“This session with the kids came as a refreshing experience at a point when my music-making had become way too much serious. It enabled me to take a step back, completely rethink the way I worked and most importantly breathe some joy back into the studio. Then came COVID-19 and long quarantine weeks that gave the lyrics a completely different meaning and compelled me to rework the track, extend it, give it a proper structure, and start planning a release”, stated the French producer, who also invited some adult friends to deliver insightful remixes: K-Effect (SXDNS062) & Parissior (SXDNS206), Laptop Kid, and Ctrl+Stop.

Premiered here, K-Effect and Parissior’s remix takes the indie dance vibe of the original a little further with a powerful Synthwave-meets-Electro interpretation driven by a strong rhythm section and carefully-crafted synth line.

Watesa (Nelson's Contest Edit)

Julian Fleker is an artist from Argentina, a friend of Playground Records' (@playgroundrecords) origins in the underground of Buenos Aires. Ricardo Ruben's (@ricardo-ruben) project starting from the name to the artistic side face and composition takes a humorous place, although his musical background is serious. Ricardo Ruben is a character from a song by the 80's rock group Los Twists that carried a share of acid humor.

It is then that the name of this EP is not surprising, nor the way to face a different compositional work, wanting to highlight an idiosyncrasy of personal and local search.

“De la cabina a la parrilla” (From the booth to the grill) is another title that plays with the local humor, Ricardo Ruben talks about those Argentine meetings where everything walks around meat and barbecue, and the DJ booth can be set up next to the embers. Diving into that personal identity, his search for sound combines modulations that twist and shoot up and down, hi hats and rides that filter and deform, cowbells in front, gloomy melodies of out- of-tune oscillators that give something of a grotesque circus and then come out in synth leads that carry us to an ecstatic trance.
