The next EP of our Russian ambassador, Disco Morato (SXDNS147), will be released on his own label, the promising and darkness-devoted Maxima Culpa Records, which is also co-managed by Gegen Mann, another vital Russian artist. "Tredici", the seventh adventure of the imprint, features two bouncing originals and an almighty remix by Spanish producer WLDV. On all three themes, a dark-futuristic atmosphere prevails, turning the EP a must-have for the lovers of Dark Disco/Indie Dance.   

In many cultures, "tredici" ("thirteen" in Italian) is considered an unlucky number. The fear of the number 13 is called triskaidekaphobia, by the way. In others – China, France and Italy, for instance –, it represents luck. Well, we are lucky for having the opportunity of reviewing such a superb tune, and we believe that for Disco Morato it will bring lots of good fortune. Despite the heavy and obscure mood of the title track, the groove is intense, leaving no room for gloominess or bad vibes. "Tredici" is that kind of piece that makes you close your eyes and deliver yourself to its deepness. A piece of work with soul and personality committed to triggering on you that kind of happiness that only (good) music is capable of.

Another mighty EP from our guy in Russia, peeps! Disco Morato (SXDNS147) is actually a machine producing one release after another, pumping out perfect dark & warped electronic body music that would be packing dance floors in smoke-filled basements if only we were allowed to do this during such strange times. His forthcoming release on Nein Records continues his winning streak, pulsing beats and laser synths from each of the three originals that will take you right into the Russian producer’s mind. The remixes come courtesy from Nein boss Tronik Youth (SXDNS050) and Morato’s Russian cohort Gegen Mann – who delivers two different interpretations and turns up the heat both on “Discesa” and “Mandato Divino”.

D.M. keeps flirting with the Italian vocabulary and shows on the title track (“descent”, translated into English) a different sonority considering his most recent productions. His main characteristic – thick and palpable darkness – is there, but now pairing with a more bleepy and funky theme. The trippy synth lead and the bouncing bassline are definitely some of the highlights that cannot go unmentioned.

PREMIERE111 // Disco Morato - Discesa (Original Mix)

His home and studio - an exquisite apartment set upon three floors, located in the city's first and oldest quarter - became a trove of all of his sculpted creations. The rooms, fitted with large opaque windows that stretched out across tall, off-white walls, were filled with over 200 sculptures of varying sizes, some made of chalk and some generated from now unfortunately oxygenated bronze. The statues, in pure neo-Renaissance style, depicted an array of classical figures enacting diverse hedonistic activities. Some were drinking, some dancing and others were coily sharing a delicate romantic moment, all coming together in a great, immobile gathering.

Playground Records celebrates its 30th release with label co-founder Martin Noise's newest output. The four-track EP, titled DUI, features two original productions and two remixes by Bufi and Middle Sky Boom. Today we share the latter's remix of 'Pis Turístic', an organic, quasi-ritualistic track that features entrancing percussion and a mesmerising bassline that is perfectly accompanied by fluttering synths.

Sonido Moderna is a multi-disciplinary collective founded in 2016. Their initial goal was the dissemination and exposure of what they like to call “Designer Dance Music”. Taking pride in swimming upriver and the limits this ethos presented, they managed to slowly introduce alternative dance music and sounds unheard of in Guatemala's limited electronic music scene. They could think of no better way to commemorate the founding of Sonido Moderna and the cross-cultural exchanges achieved than announcing their new label. In November 2020, an often-talked about dream will come true: The release of a compilation of all-original tracks that represent their mission, aesthetic philosophy, and contrarian efforts. 

The first of many, this VA release is devoted to showcasing not only local Guatemalan producers but also artists from their globe-spanning group of friends and collaborators. Producers from Turkey, Ukraine, Mexico and Colombia that share their musical worldview and have been great inspirations as well as partners in this corner of dance music counter-culture will be rounding off the compilation: Alan Es, Alf Champion, Dany F, Hanzo & Yaman, ID_UA, Mijo & Max Jones, Mike Rowave, Mverto Futura, Tony Gallardo II and, of course, Guatemala President Fabio Me Llaman Soltero were the ones chosen to bring N.001 to life.

Oh boy, it was hard to choose one! The high quality of the tracks turned the mission into a tough one. In order to help us decide, we used two criteria: First, the featured artist had to be Guatemalan; second, he had to be someone who hasn’t previously appeared on our platform. The silly method worked and brought us Mverto Futura’s contribution to the compilation: “Cursed Dumbeck” combines a groovy industrial-influenced percussive line, a playful synth layer, and a beautiful chorus-like pad. Amamos el resultado! Mverto Futura is definitely another virtuous Central American talent to watch, peeps!

No FTR is short for No Future: Daniel Monaco wants to represent a trip into an obscure place maybe lost in space maybe doomed in a parallel universe, the drums are sometimes mixed with metallic trashcans alike sounds, melodies suggesting feelings of hope and despair, Sequenced synth bass are mixed with live performed basslines trying to create a muddy yet sharp rolling grooves. Some intentional overdo on the arrangement was made to recall the fullness in sound typical of few old school Italo tracks Daniel Monaco is fond of.
The EP is a Dark Italo concept containing 3 originals and 3 remixes by artists such as Golden Soul Label Boss and unstoppable producer James Rod, Korean artist Shubostar owner of Uju Records known for her Cosmic Touch and also favorite Burning Man Mayan Warrior DJ, Slow Motion label boss Franz Scala pioneer of the new Italian Wave, a true creator and Italo Master.
