Secret Soul Society, aka South Wales's Cal Gibson, continues his red-hot streak of form with four original jams for Hell Yeah that effortlessly weave decades of influences into intimate, unusual sounds that go from Balearic daydreams to after-hours soul burners.

Gibson was one-half of Nottingham's deep house and downtempo outfit Neon Heights back in the 2000s, a collective that label head Marco has long admired. He has landed here before with the superb Keep The Mystique in 2023, a 15-track collection of brand new curveball cuts built from lovingly sourced samples. Since then, he has continued to collide jazz, funk, Afro, beats, dub, soul and reggae on Paper Wave and Magic Wand.

'Happy To Be' opens with gentle, sun-soaked grooves, swirling keys and dreamy pads that evoke a hazy Mediterranean sunset. Nostalgic soul samples tug at the heart while the track’s laid-back vibe is perfect for golden-hour moments. 'Orange Surprise' is a magical slice of downtempo bliss with hints of romantic vocals. It's built on soft broken rhythms and drifts between ambient soul and laid-back electronica, perfect for introspective moments or late-night winding down.

'Keep On Trying' flips the script with more texture. The synths are crystalline, the pads are sugary, and the meandering bassline unfolds in wonky fashion while soft male vocals bring a steamy edge. Last but not least, 'What You Do To Me' is funky and slow motion disco with 80s synths and reverb that drowns you in good vibes.

This EP is Secret Soul Society at his most expressive and emotive.

Jakarta based Jonathan Kusuma delivers a new EP on Cocktail d’Amore Music. After his European debut on Cosmo Vitelli’s I’m A Cliché, followed by a successful EP on Berlin’s imprint Love On The Rocks, the Indonesian artist keeps carrying the vessel of the Far East sound.  
The title track Black Magic is a fat disco-tribal inspired groove that builds fast, eventually climaxing with a cloud of acid synths and mystical vocals. 
Japanese duo Mascaras, Chida and Cos/Mes’ 5ive, straighten up the groove giving a 4/4 beats restyling. The result is a Proto-Techno, Trance influenced soundscape, for foggy late-night dancefloors. 
Urban Sorcery is an Italo inspired maze of proto-acid synthesizers, sounding like an enchanted concrete-covered forest.                 
90’s house inspired Redvox is an experiment of cosmic influences. As the vocal becomes part of the groove, the long pads fuel this spaceship pushing it to the borders of time and space.

Olimpiada Records have been kind enough to share Pines in the Sun - Zig Zag Sea, an EP which evokes the ocean to the point where you can almost taste salt in your mouth when you listen to it. Sun is the lead cut and opens with a meditative chant which is later joined in quite kindly by laidback disco sounds which set an irresistable tone before giving way to warm and life affirming guitar tones. 
Uj Pa Gaz and Olsi's new project is clearly here to bring the solar rays, the breeze and the distant sound of the waves through our ears and into our souls... Just make sure you bring a towel. Out July 11th on digital format.

Coco was born in a coconut tree on a deserted and remote island in the South Pacific. Under the shade of a palm tree, he took his first steps and slept his first naps. One day he decided to build a raft with the shells of the coconuts he had eaten until then and launched himself into the ocean in search of new lands and adventures.

After much sailing and long napping, he shored in the city of Barcelona at the beginning of the 21st century. Disenchanted with the way of life in the northern hemisphere, he decided to create in 2009 the Incipient Republic of Freedonia, the nerve centre of Barcelona's underground, in the heart of the Raval. 

After some years in the background, programming and listening to the sets of the best DJs in the city, Coco decided to come out as The Coconut. Just one year after his premiere, Coco has shared booths with artists such as Curses, La Mverte, Álvaro Cabana, Javi Redondo, Middle Sky Boom, Freudenthal, Martin Noise, Morze, Lokier, among others, in addition of playing most of the most important venues in Barcelona such as Apolo, Laut, This Side Up, The Garage of the Bass Valley, plus the legendary Pikes in Ibiza, some clubs in Berlin as Polygon or Rummels Bucht and also in Tuscany (Italy).

“Four Fundamental States of Matter” is a debut EP for the Lithuanian producer Purple. While each piece is a different “state of matter”, Purple lets the listener to decide which one is which, individually. 

Gentle but uncertain currents of water, warm but not constant gusts of wind, solid and clearly visible objects, exotic but untouchable plasmic phenomenons happens around us everyday. But life itself is no different than those states surrounding us. It can feel liquified - unpredictable and shapeless; flowing but having no particular destination. Solid and tangible, giving us first hand experiences. Life can feel like it's disappearing and evaporating, no longer being visible. But sometimes it expands and opens up to us under unusual conditions. Life opens to us if we open ourselves to it.
