Next up in our mix-series is the Rotterdam-based visual artist and DJ, Nelly. A unique audiovisual storyteller, who played a perfect psychedelic evolving warmup set at our Amsterdam showcase at Doka together with Minimal Collective - together with recent appereances on Mala Junta X Spielraum, Dekmantel and a residency at Garage Noord in Amsterdam. 

She blesses us with a trippy mix, constisting of psychedelic soundscapes and tranceindusing wormholes. A true journey, starting of at rhythmical-, idm-esque beats flowing into deep psy techno and trance.

“​​The artwork evoked a certain eerie atmosphere and I instantly knew what kind of mix I wanted to create. The image contained certain details like patterns and colours that reminded me of some tracks I had in my collection. With these tracks from my archive combined with fresh new productions from my favourite producers, I created a new trip. There are dark and heavy tones in it but with bright points. Think of it as a long walk through a gloomy cave which ends in a beautiful serene forest valley (and yes, of course, filled with fairies 🙂 🧚🏼‍♂️🧚🏼)”

Creativity is the tool Nelly uses to process, understand and cope with the world. She finds solace in forest walks as much as she does on darkened dance floors and losing herself in these moments allows her to reset, reflect and become re-inspired. When she is on the other side of the DJ booth, she is someone who distills dark musical forces into high energy sets rich in atmosphere and dense with emotion. Impactful hypnotism, stylish trance and growling machines all colour the airwaves and make for moments of true escapism and non-stop physical workouts.

She finds solace in forest walks as much as she does on darkened dance floors and losing herself in these moments allows her to reset, reflect and become re-inspired. 

With an intricate, developing journey from trip-hop, to deep techno, ambient, trance, dub and beyond, Nelly's world building approach has a certain pensive beauty to it.. perfectly fitting for the series.
