What’s it for?

I don’t know about you, but I consume too much news. 

Too much doom and gloom. Then there’s that little pandemic.

AND in short, I feel like everything is shit and we’re all going to die.

So I have decided to keep consuming news and wallowing in my informed despair, but to balance that out by talking to some interesting people about the things they love. 

Each week we will chat to one fascinating person - some famous, some not – about the things they love. 

And we will feel good. 
Or at least a bit less shit.

Andy Ashcraft has been designing games since he discovered D&D in the early 80’s. He got his first professional game-design gig in 1994 after running a 60+ player LARP.  He teaches game design and interactive narrative at the New York Film Academy and runs his own freelance game design business in Los Angeles where he lives with his very funny wife, US comedian Jackie Kashian.

Following the death of her son, Luke, in 2014, Rosie has been instrumental in successfully influencing an unprecedented national focus on family violence at both a political and societal level.  Rosie was named Australian of the Year in 2015 and continues to speak passionately about family violence, challenging everyone across communities around Australia to be part of the change that needs to happen.

Our guest is none other than former Australian Senator - now scruffy Arts Student and stay-at-home-dad - David Feeney.  
David is a former Australian politician. He was the Labor member for the division of Batman in the House of Representatives from September 2013 to February 2018. Before that, he was a member of the Australian Senate for Victoria from 2008 until his resignation to contest Batman.

As with all our guests on Person Place Thing, with Nelly Thomas, I challenge you to get to know David Feeney in a different way, beyond the headlines.

Dee Madigan is a Creative Director and political strategist who specialises in ad campaigns for the non bastard types. You'll probably know her as a panellist on The Gruen Planet (ABC TV) and appears on Sky's The Contrarians, PM Live and The Perrett Report. She can also be heard regularly on ABC Radio. Today, she talks to Nelly about her favourite Person, Place and Thing. You'll never guess!

Nelly Thomas is a comedian, author &  media personality. You may have seen or heard her on ABC radio, Radio National or News Breakfast, read one of her books or been to one of her shows. In all forums and formats, Nelly’s trademark is a combination of intelligence and warmth; and a laugh that could melt a Golden Gaytime. Nelly lives in Melbourne, Australia with her partner Lachlan, their two daughters, a grumpy poodle and a very dense Labradoodle. She loves reading, watching terrible television and talking to people. She and was once an 13’s Girl’s BMX Champion.
