Her favorite concert, the year before the accident. The details, a little blurrier with each retelling. The t-shirt, a little thinner with each cycle through the machines. The memories, slowly transforming into lint.

Disquiet 0695 invited us to take a piece of our own music and put it through a metaphorical dryer. What would be cast off, and what would remain?

I decided to start with "Mise-en-scene", the piece that I made back in September for prompt #0665: a glitchy, minimalist homage to Achim Szepanski. The original track featured a Møffenzeef Mødular Stargazer drone synth performance over complex 5/4 rhythmic patterns voiced with drum machine samples. 

To put the piece through the dryer, I decided to underlay a more regular and machine-like rhythm (an 8-bar 4/4 percussion part) and make the song get thinner over time. The 4/4 under 5/4 made for some interesting polyrhythms. I thinned out the song by slowly converging the cutoff frequencies of low- and hi-pass filters applied to all of the original tracks. By the end, nothing is left but the 4/4 rhythm of the machine winding down.

This is an experimental project that was born from a phenomenological interest in sound as a device to penetrate the sensorial threshold and summon the unknown. 

The concept’s core is based on orchestrating mindscapes while directing ethereal, psychological and ecstatic synthesis through bizarre sound processing. Forming abyssal atmospheres and polymetric arrangements, this project combines a variety of alternative and underground genres/elements as a strategy to reach a sort of cultural metalinguistic entropy, thus inducing the listeners into a liminal state between emotional bliss and nostalgic waste.

I understand this as a small contribution of a collective operation that serves as a symbᶦoᵗlic implant that seeks to have a will of its own, meaning to create a swiftness in thought so as to sublimate the mundane experience and conjure the vast dimensional paradigm of what lays hidden in the profound depths of the v̷̛̗̭̓ȍ̷͔̦̣̲͛̽i̴̡̼̯͚̎d̶̩͙̩̄̊.
