The few occasions Murdock has had to play this new single out in the past year have proven it an absolute crowd favourite. From SASASAS’s DJ Phantasy jumping on stage for the rewind at Fabric in London to a flood of messages when a short video of the track at a German drive-in rave popped up online, to massive shouts from the likes of Macky Gee and Kanine and daily DMs asking for its release: ‘Free’ has all the makings of a classic. The female vocals urging everyone to “set yourself free” instantly grab you by the throat - it is literally what everyone wants right now: to be set free! Goosebumps and chills take you into the ribcage-rattling predrop after which the signature bassline kicks in and things really explode. Pounding swingbeat drums and a thumping bass keep you bouncing till the second breakdown when it all starts from the top and you’ll see all the hands going up in the air. This one is destined to be a highlight at the upcoming festivals, the world is working so hard to enable, and one can easily imagine tens of thousands of people singing back the bassline whenever the dj draws for it. “I’d set you all free if I could!”

AMAZING EP – L PLUS
 
RELEASE DATE: 24th June
 
Hailing from Bratislava in Slovakia, D&B producer L Plus has already  
forged an enviable career as a DJ and producer. Since signing  
exclusively to Technique Recordings in 2011, he’s been honing his  
unique sound, with releases like his “Time Travel” EP, “Catastrophe”,  
and remixes for scene luminaries like Crissy Criss and Tantrum Desire.
 
This style is evident in this release. The title track sets out L  
Plus’s blueprint straight away, with sweeping atmospherics cut with  
strong vocal hooks. The bass hits hard, but it’s the melody that  
drives the tune, evoking the early days of rave while maintaining  
precision-tooled production quality.
 
Next, “Taking Me Higher” moves even further into old skool euphoria.  
The beautiful vocal and filtered strings of the intro, swooping into a  
instant-classic riff, offer a perfect lighters-in-the-air moment.  
After an epic drop, L Plus twists things up with another of his  
trademarks, a half-speed breakdown allowing the harmonies he’s created  
to shine through.
 
As the name suggests, “Challenger” goes harder. L Plus is a master of  
atmosphere, and here he shows off this skill to build tension. His  
high-end patterns blend and contort until the drop, when he throws  
down a complex array of synth-work to send ravers crazy.
 
The last track, “Close To You”, takes us back in time again.  
Mid-nineties spacey sounds are held together with the eponymous vocal  
sample. Percussive stabs and building drums introduce the low-end  
which sparks the track into life, which L Plus balances with his  
customary melodic work.
 
This EP shows exactly what L Plus can do. He’s a true music producer,  
not a “beat-maker”, able to manipulate melodies and vocals as easily  
as he can twist up a bassline. Add this to his calling-card soaring  
atmospherics and it’s clear that these tracks are equally capable of  
blowing up dances and airwaves.

NEMESIS RECORDINGS was formed in 2005 by none other than SILVER aka NORTH BASE who thought it would be a good place to output the love he had for jungle / drum & bass music. Starting with only tape cassettes back in early 1993, SILVER got more and more into learning about music technology and recording his own music. Buying old computers like ATARI ST, COMMODORE 64, SPECTRUM ZX & AKAI, EMU samplers, SILVER got more and more into making drum and bass and continued to push his sound through his label. 

After meeting with partner in crime SONIC at a party and talked about music all night. They formed and created ACCIDENTAL HEROES and SONIC SILVER moniker, and the rest they say is history. Having had many releases on labels such as METALHEADZ, VIRUS, V RECORDS, INFRARED, REINFORCED, SILVER thought it was about time and release the first 12 inch record on NEMESIS RECORDINGS and signed a single from XAMPLE (RAM RECORDS) & SOL and the label went on from strength to strength.

Now with over 30 releases on the label NEMESIS boasts it has opened the doors and nurtured a lot of key artists and top producers on the dance music scene today such as SKREAM, A-SIDES, LUTIN-DUBPHIZIX, ZED BIAS, GRIDLOK, CHIMPO, CHAMPION, MC 2SHY, ROUGHCUT, MC FOXY, DJ ORIGIN, DJ CABBIE, NC-17, NW2, PRESTIGE, STATION EARTH, RAWTEE, XAMPLE & SOL, ONE87, DAWN RAID, WILL MILES, DJANDY, and the list goes on.
