King Aelle of Northumbria, according to some historical accounts, was responsible for the death of Viking hero Ragnar Lothbrok. Aelle had him thrown into a pit full of venomous snakes. "How the little pigs would grunt," Ragnar is reported to have said, "if they knew how the old boar suffers!" The "little pigs," Ragnar's term of endearment for his sons, did more than grunt. Word of their father's death galvanized them into action. Experience Aelles last hours before facing his final, justful judgement.

Herja is roughly translated to "wage war" and is one of the two new albums by Danheim (2018).
Herja contains Viking War Songs and Epic Viking Battle Songs. In contrast to the Fridr album, Herja is based on a darker atmosphere and are inspired by the struggles, battles and hostile times of the Viking Age.

The song “Kauna’’ is based on the 6th rune of the Elder Futhark. Kauna, Kaunan, Kaun or Kenaz stands for the K sound. This rune can have multiple meanings. Kaun in Old Norse means wound or ulcer. It is also known as Kenaz (meaning torch) based on its Anglo-Saxon name. The deeper meaning of this rune symbolises warmth, enlightening and knowledge. Associated with ritual fires when celebrating the winter and summer solstice. Kauna, the great purifier, the torch and the wildfire, burns away the decay in the heart. The ulcer burns the body in sickness and Fire cleanses the soul, and lights the way.

Lyrics :

Sal sér hon standa
sólu fegra,
gulli þakðan
á Gimlé:
Þar skulu dyggvar
dróttir byggja
ok um aldrdaga
ynðis njóta.

Það man hon fólkvíg
fyrst í heimi
er Gullveig
geirum studdu
ok í höll Hárs
hana brenndu.

Þrysvar brenndu
þrysvar borna,
oft, ósjaldan;
þó hon enn lifir.

Surtr ferr sunnan
með sviga lævi,
skínn af sverði
sól valtíva;
grjótbjörg gnata
en gífr rata,
troða halir helveg
en himinn klofnar.

Þar kjömr inn dimmi
dreki fljúgandi,
naðr fránn, neðan
frá Niðafjöllum;
berr sér í fjöðrum,
flýgr völl yfir,
Níðhöggr nái,
nú mun hon sökkvaz.

Lyrics Translated to English :

More fair than the sun,
a hall I see,
Roofed with gold,
on Gimlé it stands;
There shall the righteous
rulers dwell,
And happiness ever
there shall they have.

The war I remember,
the first in the world,
When the gods with spears
had smitten Gullveig,
And in the hall
of Hár had burned her,

Three times burned,
and three times born,
Oft and again,
yet ever she lives.

Surtr fares from the south
with the scourge of branches,
The sun of the battle-gods
shone from his sword;
The crags are sundered,
the giant-women sink,
The dead throng Hel-way,
and heaven is cloven.

From below the dragon
dark comes forth,
Níðhögg flying
from Niðafjöll;
The bodies of men on
his wings he bears,
The serpent bright:
but now must I sink.
